Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here And I can't wait till we can break up outta here Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this An anti social pessimist but usually I don't mess with this And I know you mean only the best and Your intentions aren't to bother me But honestly I'd rather be Somewhere with my people we can kick it and just listen To some music with the message (like we usually do) And we'll discuss our big dreams How we plan to take over the planet So pardon my manners, I hope you'll understand That I'll be here Not there in the kitchen with the girl Who's always gossiping about her friends So tell them I'll be here Right next to the boy who's throwing up 'cause He can't take what's in his cup no more Oh God why am I here? Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh I ask myself what am I doing here? Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here And I can't wait till we can break up outta here Hours later congregating next to the refrigerator Some girl's talking 'bout her haters She ain't got none How did it ever come to this I shoulda never come to this So holla at me I'll be in the car when you're done I'm standoffish, don't want what you're offering And I'm done talking Awfully sad it had to be that way So tell my people when they're ready that I'm ready And I'm standing by the TV with my beanie low Yo I'll be over here Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh I ask myself what am I doing here? This song is amazing. Listening to it helps remind me I'm not the only one going through a rough patch. I guess if you need to get over something or someone, you just gotta learn how to compartmentalize all of your feelings about the situation and do the only things that make you happy, no one else. Eventually these things will lead to a better life and better people, it just sucks because sometimes its way easier to just sit around and mope, feeling sorry for yourself. In this world full of impermanence, why cheat yourself out of experiencing everything this amazing life has to offer just because someone or something had a negative effect on you. Take that as a lesson and become a better person from it, that way you can possibly help someone else having a hard time and maybe, just maybe find true happiness. Stay strong, and keep your head up!

This is sampled from an old Isaac Hayes song. Portishead also sampled that same song for one of their tunes. That being said, I like what Cara did with it---this was actually based on a party she went to, and decided she didn't want to be there. So she wrote this from experience---I love it, too.

My 19 yo son just shared this song with me. You have a beautiful voice & it was very moving! :) He told how he'd happened to hear it on the radio (we generally don't do mainstream media) & how it brought chills to him listening. It did to me as well. I hope the fact this song is popular enough to get airtime, will awaken others to the realization they're not alone, and to not be afraid to speak up & go against the mainstream. Realize the distractions are there & there for a reason. Best of everything to you, good luck, & keep making those plans with your friends to help change the world! :) ✌

Reminds me of my college days, and being dragged out to house parties by friends. I'd usually seek out that one person in the corner of the room who felt the same as me (would rather be at home or anywhere but there, probably equally introverted), and have more deeper conversations with them--maybe trying to find somewhere that isn't as obnoxiously loud.

I can relate because I have never been the partying type of lady and I remember feeling that way when I was younger, I was uncomfortable at parties but never told anyone until I met my husband so your lyrics are real to me. I respect your transparency because it can be difficult for young people to tell their friends that they feel out of place!!! I shared your song with my sons because it is great, clean, relevant material for today, they enjoyed it also. God bless you, stay focused, and never let anyone lead you away from you! With her music, everyone can relate to it some point. And that’s the beauty of it. I also really love how always she is in simple life style. Love you Alessia Cara....
