Now, I understand why he's racing under the Thai flag. Apart from the fact that he feels connected to his Thai roots through his mother's family, his second chance at F1 came through contacts in Thailand after Red Bull dropped him in 2012. All racing drivers must go through hardships, but based on this interview, it sounds like Alex is of the group that didn't quite fit into the F1 world. He wasn't a natural at racing single-seaters like Max. He's not a legacy racer like Charles and Carlos. He isn't incredibly wealthy like Lance. He's a likeable guy, but he isn't charismatic like Daniel. He doesn't have enough experience like all the other rookies on the grid. Alex's modesty and humility seem to stem from this knowledge that he's had to work almost twice as hard to get to where he is and he'll likely have to keep proving that he deserves his place no matter how long or how well he does.

@@Zramy Luck is a popular name for a sequence of uncontrolled events that ended up bringing someone some benefit. I never said it was controlled by some spiritual entity or that it was bounded to someone. Saying Albon had some luck on his way up is not a way of minimizing his talent (is there talent? Or is it also luck of having the right genes for the job) or the effort he truly put in his driving and improving, it's just a way of saying that the circumstances played a role in placing him where he currently is, and that even with more talent and effort, it is not guaranteed that someone would achieve the same. In the same way, Hubert was very unlucky in the way his accident occurred, in any other circumstance ho could have survived. Massa was extremely unlucky to hit a moving spring from another car in 2009, and also extremely lucky of not having it 3 centimeters lower hitting the visor. It has nothing to do with superstition, it's a post interpretation of the events, regardless of what you say. And now the conversation is over, you pedantic cock.

@@Zramy Nice quote mate, but Alex had an exceptional chance to drive in F1: Red Bull had already said no to him and he had signed up for FE in a good team. However RB had very few options on the academy with a superlicense or getting it that year and Daniel move created a gap in the mid season for a new seat there. With a situation where Pierre was young and showing potential for the seat while Brendon was older with a lot of bad results leading to his drop, it opened 2 seats in Toro Rosso. Danill being fast, had a good relationship with Fraz Tost and familiarized with the garage was a "easy" pick in the last minute. But Alex had to convince Dr. Helmut Marko that he could drive for them and he did with an excellent F2 campaign, putting him in contention for the seat with few options remaining. In the end he made his own "lucky" working hard for his dream.

Alex - don’t get fooled into complacency by the team telling you to take your time and get comfortable. They want to keep the pressure off you but at the same time, if you’re not pushing Max and getting impressive results they will look elsewhere. They’ve done it to so many drivers. Don’t get caught out thinking you have time to come up to speed. You don’t. We’re rooting for you!
@SkywhiteChannel
@SkywhiteChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Also, my pushing Max hard, doors may open elsewhere. You never know what may happen in F1. So don’t assume redbull/TR are the only two options you have. It may seem like there’s nothing else but if you prove your worth other teams will take notice. I’m not saying bang wheels with Max but don’t focus just on being comfortable. Have the outlook on “how do I beat him”. Every race, every qualifying, every practice. Yes, every practice too. Because even the little things will build momentum, maybe get in Max’s head and he’ll try harder/push more and then little incidents and accidents can happen. Clearly Max is not immune from them. He’s done it for numerous seasons. So get your head in the game, don’t be such an open book, get mentally tough and have that killer outlook to beat him at any and every session.

@tuomasholo
@tuomasholo 4 жыл бұрын
Joolslab 2 I respectfully disagree with Max as having bad luck in the last two races. In Spa Max had a poor start. It’s possible he had a technical problem with the clutch setting but he made a poor decision to take the inside line into La Source when Kimi was already in front into the corner (deja vu). To compound the problem his foot was to the floor when he could see his steering was compromised going up into Eau Rouge. The video replay shows no response as Max steered left and right before the crash sending him into the barrier. At Monza, Max started in the back due to a engine penalty. He compromised his return to the front when he crashed into Perez at the start. He wasn’t under pressure because of his grid position. His premature pit to replace his front wing ultimately cost him a higher finish. Even with a time penalty for Alex when he cut a chicane, he fought his way back to finish in front of Max.

If Ron Dennis was still at the helm of McLaren, he'd for sure be a long-term McLaren driver. Can see him in a Mercedes. Surprised Merc didn't try and snatch him up for next year.

Nah, Max started p19, lost his front wing lap 1, lost 30-40 seconds with that and still almost overtook Albon in Monza, if it wasnt for Perez or his bad luck with VSC. I really love Albons attacking driving style and overtakes but im afraid hes missing raw pace.

You just have the sense that Alex will make it to the very top. Simple, uncomplicated, incisive with an enormous helping of focused common sense. I don't think there is any doubt who will occupy the seat alongside Max next year. I wonder if it ever crossed Honda's mind that they may have an F1 Champion who combines the best of East and West?

I really like this young man. He’s not full of himself, capable and humble. I’m sure he’ll find a drive even if RBR not signs him. Came from DAMS F2 w/o test to ToroRosso he brought machine to top 6, mid-season switch w/o test he brought RBR to top 5 in his 1st season, 1st race for RBR. He can adapt himself in any machine; unlike Vettel or other that need to build the car around them. Giv AA merc or red car I think he can win the title.
