the campfire scene just cracks me up every time i see it because matthew (director) said they reshot the scene 11+ times and nick had to recite the literal essay in one shot 11 times for them to just not use it … i just can’t imagine the betrayal nick must have felt 😂😂

At the end of the ice cream scene, you can tell from Henry’s expression that he’s falling for Alex - a mix of admiration and something more.
@Camiswatching_tm Жыл бұрын
One of my most favourite parallels comes from one of these scene. When Henry is telling his story around the campfire he says “his grandfather the king sent the prince a suit of armour (well “sent the suit a prince of armour”) and told him if he always wore it nothing would ever happen to him” and later on in the movie when Alex ‘storms the castle’ to tell Henry he loves him; he says “I’ll leave and you can live in your tower and protect your heart for the rest of your life and nothing will ever happen to you but Henry… nothing will ever happen to you” and It is one of the most emotionally devastating scenes in my opinion but is definitely my favourite parallel.

The fireside chat is the mist beautiful of the deleted scenes, i cant wait for amazon to drop the 4 remaining ones and give us the directors cut!❤
@maycafeng7563 Жыл бұрын
So Matthew Lopez, the director actually explained in his Instagram post of the campfire scene why it was cut: the scene was supposed to go between Alex’s conversation with his dad and the two of them in the lake where Henry runs away. He thought that the scene didn’t give new information that the audience didn’t already know and that this three-and-a-half-minute long monologue would slow down the pacing and hindering the momentum For the cornetto at least my understanding is that it actually eases the tension Alex and Henry are supposed to have at that point, especially since the audience (who haven’t read the book) aren’t supposed to know that Henry has a massive crush on Alex yet, but he’s looking at Alex quite gently when Alex says “And… posted.” So as a continuous sequence, if we go from the photo taking at Kensington where they’re literally squeezing the hell out of each other’s hands out of spite, to them doing an Instagram post together which seems like a step forward, then to the interviews with their thinly veiled insults, it’s kind of weird So there are a lot of scenes that stand on their own and are great scenes to watch, but when put in the movie to be part of something continuous doesn’t work as well on the bigger scale By the way, Alex and Henry have their own character Instagram accounts! If you go search @theagcd and @princehenryuk on Instagram, you can see posts made in their perspective more or less over the course of the movie, including the post in the cornetto scene on Alex’s account, which funnily enough originally had the caption in the book, but later changed to the caption from the deleted scene once it was released Also, have you guys watched/reacted to the bloopers yet? They’re really fun and extremely amusing/entertaining, and there’s actually a deleted scene hidden in the blooper reel Honestly there are definitely more deleted scenes to come, at the very least, the breakfast scene from the trailer, an extended polo scene from the speech montages and still photos, and an extended Paris Café scene from a BTS photo the director post, hopefully Prime will release them all at some point in the near future

I am wholeheartedly a proponent of watching the movie before you read the book, because I’ve noticed that many of the people who read the book first were highly critical of the movie, where is most people who watched the movie first enjoyed it greatly. And people who read the book first tended to be angry that these scenes got deleted. That being said, despite the word switching in the second one, I think I liked it better and wouldn’t have minded seeing it in the movie.

Josh, you are correct about the 'sent the suit a prince of armor'; it even shows up in the subtitles. But, there is likely another take of the same scene that might have not had that verbal mistake. I believe the director said that he cut the scene because it was set to occur before the scene at the lake; it wouldn't have made as much sense for Henry to "run away" from Alex based on what he expressed in this fireside chat.

What Henry is saying on that scene is one of the most important part of the book! God!! I'm so pissed! And then the director said he didn't feel that this scene would add something new to the movie ,so he didn't include it!!! This scene makes that scene more clear when Alex storms the castle to see Henry and to find out why Henry ghosted him without an explaination. He tell Henry: "you can stay and live in your castle ,protect your heart for the rest of your life. but Henry, nothing would ever happen to you..." That Nick scene was worthing an Oscar! I am so mad right now at Mattew Lopez for deleting

When it comes to lines said wrong, I just can't ever get past the line when Alex says, "If I didn't think there was any chance . . . I would never leave . . ." With all of those negatives, I think he ended up actually saying the opposite of what he meant. I mean it works with his emotions at the time and how most of us get stuff like that wrong in the heat of things, but still, it just stops me short every time in that scene.

Thank you! I even made an english teacher read that and, despite her explanations, I couldn’t convince myself that sentence is correct.

the problem is that they had a 2 hour time budget. so to include them, you have to go through the movie and decide what you'd delete or compress -- good luck with that. a lot of people who read the book first are really angry that the armor scene was cut, but in the book it was a completely different context. in the book, Alex is just trying to understand Henry. in that scene, Alex is asking if he's allowed to love Henry which is very different. but the scene doesn't really make sense because while it's a bit ambiguous Alex sure reads it as a yes and why wouldn't he have told him right there he loved him?

I'll admit I didn't really care for that email, or that scene, besides the pleasure of seeing more of them. But that scene tie in other scenes, like Alex speech, Henry putting his hand on his heart while he's under water, also why Henry say "I want to show you something" at the end of Alex's speech which comes a bit abruptly in the scene. All of these are explained or make more sense with the campfire scene in mind

I'm so happy that you are reading the book. To me it's so much better than the movie. It all just fits together so well and chapters 13-14 are just so much emotions. Btw deffo make sure that you have the version of the book with the extra chapter after the 15th one (from Henry's POV). They added it to newer copys of the book and it's just so sweet.
