Hat off to Ovi for sporting achievement. The older he gets the wiser he plays. His hockey brain is the best in NHL. His "economy of energy" play style at this stage of career still delivers what most NHL U30 players cannot. The greatest NHL goal scorer will finnally break the Great One's goal record.

Honestly, good for Ovi. People have always said he's a one-dimensional player, but I've watched most of his games from Day 1. For the first six to eight years of his career, he could score from anywhere on the ice. Then came the OviSpot. He shot from there for a while. Now that he's pushing 40, his play is a lot less sexy (and he's showing how good he is at playmaking), but it's insane how he quietly still figures out how to score. It's unlikely at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if he explodes here and reaches 30.

@@user-vb1jl6og6b Maybe. I don't have that strong a memory. Either way, he and Crosby both started adapting their games as they aged right around that time. As Ovi figured out he could basically score at will from the top of the circle on the left side, Crosby realized (before the rest of the NHL) that you could basically tip a hockey puck from almost anywhere.

People always talk about him being a puck hog because they see how many more goals he has then assists. When in reallity he also has near 700 assists which is more then 99% of NHL players ever acheive. It blows my mind how badly people misinterpret these things.

Ovechkin is so far ahead of his cohort he's 260 goals ahead of Crosby #21 on the list at the moment.
