@KG-ii2yx people keep saying that but it was a business move. As much as I love DJ he wasn't selling ppvs. Maybe they didn't market him correctly but he wasn't selling. Askren in his short stint did sell and also created a big star in Jorge Masvidal (at his expense) who became a big asset. I dont think it was not a bad business decision but this is my opinion because we do not have the hard data to argue either way.

I'd rather see this instead of Leon vs Belal 2 for 300. Some people only see 1 side to an event. This card is fine. Sure they're could've been more additions but not everyone can make it. Winning the light heavyweight belt has easily put him in my current top 5. Nobody can deny his fights are entertaining. I never would’ve thought that 2 Brazilians… Alex an Olivera, that don’t speak English (or very little) would be a couple of my favorite fighters. Their fights are always exciting no matter if they win or lose! An they are both the definition of bout it!! Love his loyalty to Strickland. An his translator doesn’t leave you feeling like he left so much out. That translator seems to be on point.

Why do fans connect with Alex more than other fighters? A few reasons. 1. He came in with a story that connected him to a big name. The connection to Adesanya was a big boost that pushed him into the limelight, and created intrigue around him. How good was he really? Could he beat Izzy in MMA? Could he do what Izzy couldn't and get the LHW strap, etc, etc. 2. His fights deliver. You know when you see Alex Pereira is in the cage fireworks are going to go off. 3. Once fans got to know his own personal story better, then you can't help but respect what the man's gone through. The poverty, working from a young age, battle alcoholism, kickboxing, etc. 4. The guy is just a beast. You look at him, and anyone can see the man is different. It's one thing to know somebody is a fighting champion, but when you see Alex Pereira the average person instinctually goes "oh, this guy is not to be messed with." 5. He's respectful. In a social media age where fighters trash talk and get into all kinds of nonsense, Pereira is a stoic, down-to-business figure. He might not become best friends with his opponents or anything, but you can see he respects them, and they respect him as well. Even his biggest rival Adesanya has no issues saying that Alex is a special person, and even his boasting that the other middleweights should thank him is underpinned by how much everyone respects Pereira's abilities. Yet Alex doesn't take himself too seriously, and is fine with going along with the jokes and memes.

Alex and Ngannou share the same reason why people are drawn to them and it's that they are real, they don't need to make noise to show how determined they are it screams through their energy and actions, this dude is more intelligent than the commentators give him, the way he fights is amazing

it’s mostly the language barrier tbh. a lot of non-american fighters have great personalities when they get to speak in their native language. topuria was asked in spanish about meditation and he responded with how a ship without a lighthouse will never find its way or something. but in english topuria just kinda sounds like a cocky loudmouth. these guys aren’t given credit mostly because they’re not really given the opportunity to showcase themselves and the way they think
