Good Job. I have a wok support ring for gas burners. Gas One 15,000btu is the burner, support ring came from Chinatown market. Cut thin metal into strips 3/4" wide. Bend over top wok ring, arrange to hang with air gaps & trim length. Gas One has gas ports on inside & outside of burner head. Works perfectly, I'm using propane. Flame goes right up sides of wok.

OK great contraption. To Maximize concentration on the cooking and ease of use, I would add a foot switch mechanism so that the 2nd booster flame can be used at will.. The 2nd booster flame is at low output all the time, when U need to boost the heat, use the foot switch.

Alex French Guy Cooking Those turkey burners have infinitely adjustable propane regulators on them that allow MASSIVE amounts of fire. I put one on my regular gas grill (which they advise you expressly not to do) to properly sear steaks. I'd also imagine I wouldn't have any problem using a wok directly on the grill either... From the factory it's rated at, I think, 75,000btu across all 3 burners and I'm confident I can at least doubled that, so 50,000 btu/ea. More food for thought!

Same here... combine that with Lodge's massive cast iron wok and the heat/heat retention is insane. However, I have to use a huge chinese spatula and ladle to move the food because aint nobody picking up, shaking and dumping food out of that thing.

Nice project. Ever noticed how the power output of these stoves drops during use? That's due to the adiabatic expansion of the gas cooling down the canister(s) and dropping the pressure. You'd actually have to heat the canister to compensate for that so the stove might work better without the heat shielding.

you can get a wok stand from any Asian grocery store and you can purchase a dual source burner which can use either butane or propane. I use mine like an indoor barbecue similar to Korean style using an indoor stovetop grill. Have you considered a hydrogen fuel cell to generate hydrogen gas to cook with. Will give you higher temperatures.

I got a portable gas stove on amazon last week. it has 5 separate burners and was only 30 quid. Really blasts out like having a multiple engine spacex rocket under your wok. Much better than the expensive japanese stove.. Sounds like it mens business too. And if yo want wok her just torch the top while you are stirring.

Though it may not necessarily be a problem, I do think a small warning or instruction for any modifications using stainless parts appropriated from other functionalities would be appropriate just in case of galvanized parts. You don't want people burning off a zinc coating indoors in an enclosed space if they don't even know it's a possibility.

So, I've been contemplating this project for a while and while most people in the comments, before mine, may be correct in that it is easier and cheaper to buy an outdoor turkey fryer burner with high BTU, such as Bayou Classic's 55,000 BTU propane burner, they simply aren't looking at the bigger picture. The build in this project, while more expensive than some alternatives, provides better portability due to the use of canisters, instead of propane tanks, and can be used on top of a table or countertop with better comfort than with the alternatives, which tend to be taller. The use of a suction cup is brilliant and, on a countertop, will have better stability than the alternatives. As a student, who lives in a small apartment, would rather use a small and convenient contraption, such as this one, which I could also take to a friend's apartment to cook with more people or for similar situations. Of course, I am looking at this project with the eyes of an aspiring engineer and am up for the challenge. I will try to post once more, if or when I bring this project to life in my own apartment, but until then, this is just a lengthy praise to Alex for his creativity and for sharing his concept with us. Will share a video of the end result if I get around to it.

Wow, great design. Came here after trying to build a proper wok stand from a camping stove and an old chopping board. I made the holes in the supporting ring too small, the flame died in seconds. So I'm pretty sure they're not to let heat out, as Is said in the video, but to let CO2 escape. Next up is trying to add more oxygen by a fan, if anyone has tried this pls share
