The season before Haaland joined ManCity, they created 88.7 xG and scored 99 goals. KDB was their top scorer, he scored 15 goals. The season Haaland joined ManCity, they created 78.6 xG, and scored 94 goals. Haaland was their top scorer, he scored 36 goals. Haaland numbers seem to look good, but he massively reduces his team’s xG. And he tries to use his great finishing to make up for it. ManCity actually score less in total with Haaland. It’s like when you think there is a big discount in the supermarket, but in reality, the price is marked up by a lot before the discount is made, so you are actually paying more. We don’t want to sign a goal hanger. Finishing is NOT our problem. Against Liverpool, we created 1.1 xG and scored 1 goal. Even if we are “clinical”, outperforming our xG by a double, we would only score 2 goals and get a draw. Find me a chance we have created which we didn’t score, that Haaland would have scored. You can’t. Because those chances are so low in quality, you wouldn’t even expect anyone to score those chances. Finishing is not our problem. The actual problem is that we lack the skills and technicality to break down teams. We are struggling to create chances in terms of both quality and quantity, when we are playing against an organised low block team. The last two seasons, our xG were 71.7 and 76.1, we scored 84 and 86 goals. We have been outperforming our xG by a good amount. The problem is, why can’t we create 88.7 xG like ManCity did the season before Haaland joined them.

Its about moments though. We need goals in the right moment. Yes we can put 5 or 6 past Palace or West Ham. But we needed that 1 goal against Bayern, Villa, heck, even Fulham and Spurs during the start of the season. We need a striker that offers something different. We need to add more tools in our toolbox to deal with different kind of opponents. We can already pass it into the net. But we need to find more small marginal gains to get big trophies over the line.
@arvin94256 ай бұрын
@@HarmvanderWiltcan we 'pass it into the net' against good teams though? Like u said, we can do it against west ham and Burnley and whatever, but when it came to breaking down Bayern's mid/low block did we do it then? We relied on a 'moment' to get through Porto. Maybe a 'moments' player would've got us though Bayern, but if we keep winning on 'moments' that would've come to an end at some point, likely against real Madrid. The fact is it isn't sustainable. We weren't able to sufficiently create big chances against the big teams enough. That's an issue with our in-possession tactics (such as odeegard and saka being in each other's space), not a 'moments' issue.
@thierryhenry6746 ай бұрын
@@HarmvanderWilt The problem is that we failed to break down those low blocks. We had almost zero chance creation (or extremely low quality chance creation), so no, we are not capable to pass the ball into the net against those teams. We need to do better. We need midfielders and forwards with better skills/technicality. Moments? Yes we need moments. Players who can create magical moments against low blocks. To do tricks/skill moves to dribble pass a couple of players, quick tiki taka passes to drag opponents away, these kind of magic/moments to open up low blocks.

It's interesting how much Arteta has influenced my perspective. I've come to accept that I don't need to know what Arteta knows about the team's needs because I trust he's the best at it. I would've been excited if we got Mudryk but we're all happy with Trossard. I believe the team we had last season can internally improve enough to secure those extra 2 points. With the addition of players like Ricardo and Mikel*, we would be favorites if City hadn't won the league four seasons in a row. At this point, I think we need a striker who is young or old enough to be content with Nketiah's minutes or a little more, nothing disruptive but also faster, taller, stronger, and a better finisher. This would raise our floor because Havertz has a really high ceiling, and I expect him to have a goal contribution for every game he plays this season. I suspect Mikel isn't keen on overhauling our attacking line just yet, which is why I don't think we'll be buying a starting striker. P.s If i had a friend who enjoyed listening to my tranfer window meltdown rants about arsenal like this, I'd feel rich.

We don't "need" to sign a striker this season. I could say just look at Real Madrid but that is not a fair comparison. There is a reason we haven't been able to sign anyone yet. Our best options were Gyokeres, Sesko, Osimhen, Nico Williams Sesko: renewed his contract. Not for sale Gyokeres: contract till 2028 and a sell on clause with Coventry. Hes likely going to cost around 100 mil. Osimhen: is likely to cost a similiar amount but has other issues in terms of wage expectations, injury concerns, and mentality Nico Williams: almost definitely going to Barcelona. Now there are links with Billing for roughly 65 million. He might be worth it but he's 28 looking for a long term contract with high wage expectations. Are we really expecting Billing to help us beat Man City and bring a championship league? The best option imo is Gyokeres but I believe if there was an easy deal to be made we would have done it already.

"Earning the right to win" Arteta's been saying this since day one. He seems to be obsessed with building such a good system that we will win every game by 3-0, thus eliminating the need for "moments". It's a very Pep way of constructing a team, proven by the fact that he didnt sign a top quality striker until Haaland. He even sidelined Zlatan which was one of the most lethal strikers at the time, forcing him to leave after only one season. Ancelotti is the polar opposite, who just put his best players in their best positions and let them figure it out essentially. Also, FIRST

We've had 20 odd years of "just sign someone"... it didn't work. It doesn't work. Look at United. Look at Chelsea. We've had plenty of recent "perfect transfers", Rice Saliba, Odegaard. Furthermore, if we buy a striker, he has to fit with the idea of being willing to drop in because astride pushes Havertz into the 8 and he'll often end up displacing the striker. Also, signing a 9 displaces Havertz. Havertz is a confidence player and therefore any replacement HAS to work or you ha a disgruntled player and a not ideal The club believe massively in personality. They didn't like Toney as a man for example so he got binned. Maybe there are players with the technical attributes we need, but not the mental ones. There are so many arguments as to why your position here is fickle, tried and tested and generally, poorly thought out.

But Osihmen is a terrible pick because no one seems to notice how no striker coming out from the Serie A has been good for over 10years(Scamacca anyone?). And the reason is pretty simple, football is getting faster but Serie A still keeps it's slow pace and strikers moving from Serie A can't cope with the sudden change in pace because strikers unlike defenders need to learn to not only switch up their pace like CB's but they also need to think quick since you only have less than a second on the ball, and you can't just easily learn that, most great strikers who think 3 steps ahead like Haaland have that naturally. Also, notice how average EPL strikers seem great in Serie A for the first few seasons since they still in the mindset of the pace from the EPL. I actually watch Serie A, and I know what I'm talking about when I say, STAY AWAY FROM SERIE A STRIKERS
