Salmond was the one politician in Scotland that actually made independence seem achievable and possible. Whether you agreed with Scottish Independence or not, it was impossible not to respect Salmond's courage, his integrity, his determination, his dedication to the achievement of his overarching political goal. It is a shame that those that came after him did not match his integrity, settling themselves happily into the gravy train of promising much but delivering little....

Nicely said thanks for sharing your comment rip sir Alex Salmond 🙏🪻 hope there will be a Lovely tribute for everyone that appreciate a gentleman ❤️💐

Something particularly noticeable is that under his leadership, the SNP was prepared for independence, and in the event of a Yes vote in the referendum, had a plan ready for negotiation with Westminster. He was quite literally ready to be on a plane to London the day after the referendum to start negotiations. This is in complete contrast to the preparations for Brexit. The UK government had no plans ready for Brexit at all, because they expected us to vote Remain. Whether we agree with Scottish independence or not, whether we agree with Brexit or not, I'm sure that we can all agree that being prepared for a result which breaks the status quo is far more professional than not being prepared for it.

Give over, he's the reason i voted Brexit in first place, after a woman my age living near where i went to school was given HIV/AIDS by what would've been termed an illegal if not able to lie he was "safe" on the flimsy EU form Salmond was cool with,he was photographed up the road afterwards with loads of foreign "students" he assembled all waving "Yes" signs in 11 different languages so forgive me if i'm not exactly kind about the traitor who put harm in womens way just to realise his wee Mel Gibson bolstered dream.
@robinmcewen32863 ай бұрын
@@craigs3007 You are being sarcastic i take it? His economic policy for an indy Scotland was non-existent. There was no plan beyond getting a yes vote. That much is now abundantly clear. AS had charm but was a snake-oil salesman of the highest order. His successors have illustrated beyond doubt that Scottish indy was nothing more than an emotional conception with spite, bigotry and jingoism at its core. Salmond made indy credible. Wee Burney and Useless made sure it's not achievable for at least 50 years.

Never liked Salmond's politics, and never thought independence was a good idea, but you have to respect the skill at debate and being a successful political operator. What you can't respect is that the media is still casting a shadow on his name after he was cleared of any impropriety. So being cleared means nothing.... still guilty in the eyes of the media, maybe its the media-too movement. It was the first thing the BBC had to say about him on their evening news on the radio while announcing his death..... disgraceful.
