Great darts but Brandon's poor strategy in the fifth game was his undoing. He had taken the lead with his first dart in the bull. His choice to throw his last dart at bull instead of closing the 18 led to Spellman wrecking him with that number. Not only that, but Spellman was locked in on the 18s. Make him move to the 15s.

Why Branson do you continually close a lower number when you have the point lead instead of closing your opponent's higher number? And why when you took the point lead off the bull and had 2 game winning darts in hand decide to add more points instead of going for the win? Your shot selection needs some rethinking!

There are plenty of scenarios where you'd shoot the lower number with the point lead, particularly when you have a very small lead. If I'm up by only around 20 points, I'm going for a lower number. Unless I hit 6 marks (Close your number then grab another number), I'm in big trouble. Let's say I close your 18's but it takes me all 3 darts. You just need to hit 4 or 5 of the next number to be in control of the game. And even if you only hit 3, I have to repeat the play we just made. It's dealers choice sometimes in that scenario, but neither is the wrong play until you are allowed to have some hindsight into the play, which you can't have in the moment.
