that kid cracked me up. I used to be a tour guide for Hollywood and I enjoyed when people went nuts for landmarks or places they seen in films. Especially people from like the Midwest or the south who aren't anywhere near the film industry they'd get excited because it's a big deal for them to see that. As a native Angelino I tend to forget that Hollywood isn't your average city I'm just used to it.

Thank you for this. It's brought back memories from June 1982, I was 12 and my whole family came over from the UK. So much has changed, but nice to see jaws still swims around and the collapsing bridge in the background! What I'd give to visit the West coast again.... 💖

Did you get captured by Clingons, and rescued by Buck Rogers too? Yes it was good in 1980 when I visited. I think we got a better tour than is on offer today. You mention the collapsing bridge - do you also remember the Avalache? I would not return because I doubt this can live up to my first experience of it. I would need to find something totally new - but no fear of that - I doubt I can return to the USA.
@lesleyploddypop2950 Жыл бұрын
@@kiwikeith7633 I remember the turning tunnel and the incredible hulk show. I also remember my mum freaking out at the amount of ham in a sandwich we bought there, must've been 1½" inches thick! I don't remember an avalanche, but the more I think about it the more I start to recall big boulders rolling down towards the train!
@yjkim1243 Жыл бұрын
I visited here in April 1983 and again in May 2023 and was surprised that some of the parts were same as 40 years ago. The Jaws and the rain effect and the earthquakes. You should definitely revisit it. Don't miss the Water World show - the old-school stunt show.

I didn't know this was still a thing! I thought it vanished when the amusement parks started amping up. I went here in 1983, I think. I was sixteen. I loved it. They were filming You Can't Do That On T.V. Sat thru a taping. I remember a set with Battle star galactica ( the original ). Saw Angela Landsbury from Murder She Wrote walking about. Just magic. Way more fulfilling than the amusement parks. I was always a t.v. and movie junkie. THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT QUALITY VIDEO.

Fire Station 51 is officially LAFD Engine, Truck, Squad 51 etc. They are there because of the show Emergency, which was shot at Universal in the early 1970's. The show also sparked millions of careers in EMS and the Fire Service since.....I was one of them. Too bad the guide didn't know any of this.

Last time I rode was 1989. It's change a LOT since then. For one, no TV's screens. The original King Kong feature had not burned down yet, and the town square had been altered for shooting "Back To The Future II". There was none of the 3D glasses type of attractions then, and I don't care much for them today. 17:29, they use to drive across that bridge, which would start moving as if on the verge of collapsing. It was all simulated though. I wonder why they closed it? OK, I found out: "Since 2006, some studio tours have bypassed the Collapsing Bridge, due to aging and wearing. However, the bridge has since undergone renovations, and was added back to the tour schedules in August 2008. Since July 2010, the Collapsing Bridge has been used as a representation of the Skull Island area for the new King Kong: 360 3-D attraction."

Maybe things are different in Hollywood than Orlando, or just different entirely due to the times. But I remember when the tour guides would be in character through the whole tour, not "hey here's a fake thing. It's definitely fake, so don't get immersed in it. Coming up is another completely fake thing. You're on a ride now, see how I just explained that to you?" Those were the days, I guess.
