Character Agency & Growth

So you've developed your characters... now what? You need to make sure your main character has agency (actively makes decisions to drive the narrative) and experiences growth/change.
The point of any strong story is growth/change--things need to happen, and they need to have an impact on your characters. I'm talking about how to accomplish this.
Note: at one point I say something is self-conscious. I meant subconscious.
