Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 H-City (Part 1 of 2) 🙂

Doubledeckeranton shows a short video of the 'unique' Enviro 400 H City London bus!
The Enviro 400 H City is an overhauled version of the second generation Enviro 400 (also known as the Enviro MMC).
Built by Alexander Dennis Limited (A.D.L.), this 'unique style' of bus was unveiled at the Bus & Coach Expo in October 2015. 👍🆒️
It was aimed at the London market, and has styling cues from the New Routemaster 'Borisbus' and Enviro 200 MMC single decker bus. 😁
Arriva London was the first to operate the Enviro 400 H-city on route 78 (seen here at Houndsditch). 🚦🚐🚍🚏🚶‍♂️🏃‍♂️
The Enviro 400 H-City is only sold as an integral hybrid and is mainly offered in the London market, to directly compete with the New 3-door Routemaster.

Enviro city’s aren’t for London only. Blackpool and Nottingham also have them. It’s obvious ADL were looking to challenge the Borismaster with this and I think it’s safe to say they’ve succeeded!

This Enviro400 City bodywork is used by various bus companies around Britain. Comes with standard diesel, diesel-electric hybrid, biogas and battery electric drive. There are a total of 91 of the Enviro400H City buses in London. Split between 38 buses for CT Plus and 53 for Arriva. You can catch these buses on London bus routes 26, 78, 133, 333 & 388 and night routes N26, N133, N550 & N551. There will be more of these buses entering service as CT Plus purchased 10 more for their new route 20 contract which is expected to start on 23 March 2019. The battery electric BYD Enviro400EV is expected to appear on route 43 in May 2019, operated by CT Plus.

Agreed it's such a lovely bus. We have this model (or a very similar model) on many of our double-decker routes here in Nottingham, only ours run on biogas. I still have the little cardboard model I got when NCT showed off its new buses at the market square. They seem to be rolling them out across their entire fleet now. If I'm to be quite honest, I'm a little peeved my local route hasn't got them yet.

We launched those in Southampton last month and I was the first person to drive one in service. Initially I thought it was great and they are nice busses...but I hate driving them now. The rear doors are such a pain, they slow you down. The best double doored bus I've driven is a Volvo single decker. The doors are lightning quick. We also have air filtering busses aswell.

do, the other buses have air filtering fitted yet? as ive only seen one bus that dose. bluestar buses go past my house all the time and i never see them. the buses that go past my house are usally omnicitys and enviro 400s )the standard orignal one)

@@Scientia1423 oh god yes lol. Some drivers liked them but I really hated them...shitaros I called them. Terrible layout of controls and would always overheat. I can't comment on a passengers view as I never rode on one. I did used to like the ADl 200 and considered it my favourite bus but I've driven one on the #4 the last 2 days and I've changed my mind. I'm now liking the scanias (when the seat is fully adjustable)

I would love to drive this bus round Amsterdam. Unfortunately we can't have vehicles taller than 4 metres. I mainly drive bendy buses but double deckers would be so much easier

As others have stated, these are in use elsewhere, such as Blackpool. In an interesting twist, Lothian Buses in Edinburgh, are taking tri-axle Volvos with ADL E400 XBL bodywork, which is a 13.4m, 100 seat dual doored Enviro 400MMC with the E400 City style staircase glazing.

I know this is 5 years ago, but this bus might be used on the SL2? (Correct me if im wrong please). Im just so excited to know because i live in Ilford and we're finally getting a superloop buses, because i dont want to ride the 179 to Chingford Station every day. (It smells of fish and chips), and the 150 to Chigwell Row is completed soiled with dust. Luckily we get SL2 to Royal Docks (Hybrid bus i think) and 150U to Hainault the Lowe (Wright GB Electroliner Kite)

This bus was designed for London by ADL but is also used by Blackpool Transport, City bus Plymouth and Scania have got a gas powered bus by this design and it is used by Reading buses on their route 17 and the Bristol Metrobus M1 as of January. Other operators do use it but I’m not sure how many do. Great video as always Anton!

ADL are directly competing with Wright, the 400H is run by Nottingham City Transport as bio gas run vehicles. Now the largest fleet of these in the U.K.

We had an enviro 400 city demonstrator at our depot for a while. It looked really nice. Though this one had windows in the the roof and coach style seats and tables. Sadly never had a chance to drive it or ride on it.

Great video Anton and I’ve been on the Arriva and CT Plus versions and I like the TFL interior which is used on these and also on my local route W9 which is operated by Sullivan Buses. A shame your company hasn’t got these. Some 2006 Enviro 400s have come to Northumberland Park garage and are operating the 191 which is operated by the company you work for.

Lol. TFL just let their random contractors specify their own interior, with a few buses carrying a new interior designed by TFL. It's not becoming a standard yet however. The Tower Transit company has this really strange green tarzan interior. While Stagecoach uses their corporate interior despite major differences in the bus services provided.

Very nice looking bus. It's a pity they're only for London as we're due to get new hybrids in Dublin in 2019. They are testing some London buses here such as a London United RATP Wright bodied hybrid. Most of our buses are Wright gemini 3s operated mostly by Dublin Bus which is a state run operator but some are tendered out now like in London to Go-Ahead.

The Nb4L was made by Wrightbus with a Siemens battery and Cummins Engine. The Nb4L's 'son' (Wright SRM) is the two door variant in direct competition with the Enviro 400H MMC City. The Wright SRM isn't very successful and has had no orders, apart from some from RATP London Sovereign and two demonstrators with some kind of new pantograph electric machinery on Go- Ahead London's route 37. The pantograph trial has failed and the buses are just normal B5LHs.

According to this FOI response on TfL website. tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-of-information/foi-request-detail?referenceId=FOI-2615-1718 TfL has no involvement with the Enviro400 City and the Wright SRM (2 doors, 1 staircase New Routemaster) This is the bus company's choice whenever to purchase the Enviro400 City and Wright SRM for their new route contract.

Very nice video! It is true that the only 'Enviro 400H City' buses are all in London, but there are some variations elsewhere in the country too. Blackpool have some Euro 6 diesel versions (www.flickr.com/photos/validticket/44284524691/in/photolist-299eNhH-2ap4sF7-2ap4iJQ-27HxRbW-NkVWFy-2aoZQF7-2atgLkM-JJSMDa/) and Nottingham have some gas versions too (unfortunately I don't have a photo of them!) Why are Go-Ahead so strict with their company rules? Anton couldn't even show the wonderful view from the back window, presumably because he'd be showing his route number and company name. Looking on other social media like Instagram, some bus drivers are so open about who they work for, and what they're doing in the job. Look at Reece Lercia's insta account for example. Probably rules greatly differ from company to company.
