I was struck from the outset how much this work sounds like Dvorak, and then of its' similarity in spirit to his "American" Quartet. It's not of quite the same quality, and Glazunov's seems more of a suite than a quartet, and as such it tends to wear a little thin. It has some nice effects, including a part of the final movement that sounds as if it could have been written for the hardanger fiddle. (There's probably a Russian style equivalent.)

I think the reason for it tending to wear a little thin is also down to the recording, very shaky vibrato sound and edging to cutting brightness that will also be tiresome. It requires a warmer acoustic and a more relaxed approach.
