On May 22, 2024, Alexander Mercouris of The Duran joined Dimitri Lascaris for a discussion about three major geopolitical developments that happened earlier in the week.
The first of those developments was a May 20 decision by two senior British judges to grant a right of appeal to jailed journalist Julian Assange. Assange has been languishing in the UK's notorious Belmarsh prison since 2019.
The second development, also announced on May 20, was the decision of the ICC's Chief Prosecutor, Karim Khan, to seek arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and three senior Hamas officials.
The third development was the death of Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, and Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian.

I'm Greek Australian and this is not only pathetic but evil and embarrassing of the Australian government. The Prime Minister Anthony Albonese need's to grow a spine and stand up for the Australian community which Julian Assange is a part of ❤️🌏🌍

You can best direct your disgust at Keir Starmer. As head of UK Crown Prosecution in 2010 he is the original collaborator working with the US and Sweden to put Julian Assange behind bars.

Its gotten so if you dont follow all four Greeks (both Alexanders, Dimitri, Yiannis) and Lebanese Rania Khalek, you have no idea what's really going on in Europe and West Asia. And without following Grayzone, Hedges, Greenwald, Martin, Halper, Wolff, theres no larger context or how this affects North America. Thanks to all these excellent economists & citizen journalists for keeping it real.

Imagine if this kind of program would reach the wider public. We could have a completely different world! Thank you Dimitri for inviting Alexander Mercouris and conducting such a mastery interview. Thanks to him I've been able to stay months ahead of global developments. Not always to the benefit of my own well-being I can admitt, but at least I've been able to prepare myself somewhat mentally for what's coming and make sense of these otherwise irrational and totally senseless developments that we have to live through. You got yourself a new subscriber. Thanks!

thank you for having this discussion. Iran is important because Iran is important. resources: natural, human, industrial, cultural .... geography. it is more significant on the world stage than I say as the whole of the eu together. Estonia Latvia Lithuania are laughable, but they get excessive coverage because of their vassal position. the discussion of the crash needs also to include abdullahyan. he was an exceptional foreign minister and is a great loss to iran,. but unlike the west, Iran has people with merit that can replace the lost leaders.

The Duran don't use the word genocide when it's obvious that's what one side is committing. That's why I've never really trusted them.
@suzika8362
@suzika8362 24 күн бұрын
In his defence, as a student of law he cannot till the icj rules on it ... we ordinarily ppl can use it others more hesitant till a verdict be made. Atm it is by law an alleged genocide even so we can see it is. Same as someone is accused of murder, even so you know yourself they killed the person you cannot say murderer till a verdict is announced
@suzika8362
@suzika8362 24 күн бұрын
Dimitri, I just found you and I am amazed how obvious but overlooked points you are making and it is refreshing! I'm not a student of law but can anyone explain how hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups are not a part of the 'protective group' the icj referred by the Genova convention of the people of Palestinian, so how can be a leader of a protective group, which has a right amongst many to arm resistance be indited by the icc , that is just crashing by the international law itself 🤔

For me this complicated case seems pretty simple. It's enough to reverse the sides and see if one cane make the same argument. In this case an Australian journalist is accused by Americans for publishing info for war crimes committed during the American invasion of Iraq. We change the sides and we have an Australian journalist accused by Russians for publishing info for war crimes committed by Russians during the invasion of Ukraine. If the argument, that British have to extradite the journalist to Russia to face charges for espionage, holds, than you can send Assange to Americans.

The China - Greek deal about Piraeus harbour goes back to Germany, A.Merkel's government.She strongly pushed and encouraged various deals like this one and it was a 99-year lease of Pireaus if I remember correctly.
@bjabbbjabb1286
@bjabbbjabb1286 28 күн бұрын
@@georgianakopoulou6339 yes, but I know he was'nt in office when the deal went down. Or rather, when he got the job at treasury he took the rotten deal to another level. He simply asked China if they would renegotiate it, and so they did. A much favorable deal for greece. I just wanted to point that out. It serves as a splendid example of how generous China is in its dealings with other countries. Any other country would have never changed the contract. As of now its running on 51/49 basis from former 75/25. Lesson learned. China is less predatory when expanding its influence worldwide, like harbours in Africa that they built. Likewise if the country shows an unfriendly side , China will pack its bags and move out, like they did in Lithuania. First they built a mega- port there, but when the PM said Taiwan should be " liberated" they moved their buisness to Hamburg.
@bjabbbjabb1286
@bjabbbjabb1286 28 күн бұрын
@@georgianakopoulou6339 I only wanted to point out that there is a difference in behavior that is worth to take note of. China is often accused of empire building by the west, while they themselfs are colonizers in the most ugly sort of way. People dont know it, and they should. Its the key to multipolarity. The belt and road project is a win win where ever it touches. The yellow peril is alive only in the propaganda newsoutlets of the West. Once there was a man in greece by the name of Aristoteles Onassis. He built an empire in the very same manner. A True gentleman who distributed wealth all over the world. I admire the style. He was crushed of course. How could USA/ UK let him run things. I despice that mindset. Im sure it has to fade away in the face of RussChin fairness. I only fear the globalists wringing of their hands too close to the buttom. Good day

The British courts has long recognized that once mr Assange was within their legal jurisdiction the demands for action would violate one of its fundamental principles. This was and is the waiting game. Cheers without knowing the next approach. Now they must affirm the principles of parliamentary legislation and the charters provided .this is the Anglo-Saxon civilization fundamentals brought up through Rome,
