He has the same problem as Schubert, Schumann, and Debussy: Everyone presumes that their orchestral works are the most important thing they wrote. Those three composers as well as Scriabin wrote some of the most brilliant and imaginative keyboard music in the repertoire, but folks would rather hear something prosaic for orchestra rather than something challenging, and ultimately stimulating, for the piano.

MY TOP NINE: • Prelude no1 (00:07-1:10) [my favorite] • no 5 (6:28-8:00) [inspired by Chopin's prelude no 13] • no 6 ( 8:00- 8:55) [Allusion of Chopin's prelude no 22 and Brahms rapsodie) • no 11 (15:06-16:44) [my second favorite] • no 14 (19:51-20:47) [Probably inspired by Chopin's style. The start remember me etude op 10 no 9] • no 17 (24:41-25:21) • no 20 (27:45-28:46) [very interesting time of attack, remember me italian style of Opera] • no 23 (31:52-32:32) [Very similar to Chopin's Etude op 25 no 3 or to second moviment of the third Chopin Sonata op 58 : scherzo molto vivace] • no 24 (32:33) [I think that the succession of chords between 32:44-32:49 is an absolutely brilliant find : the highest peak of emotional expression] Skriabin= Genius

I have just allowed myself the treat of listening just to No. 11 as I am particularly interested in that at the moment. I am deeply impressed by the quality of the playing - I know how difficult even just playing the notes can be when they are so spread out, having to share between the hands . I now look forward to allowing myself to listen to each of the others in due course. Thankyou, Thankyou. Beautiful. You, with Scriabin, have put love back into my life.

Adding my many thanks for the sheer effort of matching sheet music with audio. Scriabin is perhaps the one composer I wish we had recordings. It's so enigmatic with its continual "rising", odd rhythms, strange chords and philosophical mishmash. His synesthesia allowed his to literally "paint" the music he "heard" as colors which explains a lot. Despite the fact that this was an early opus, all the Scriabinesque characteristics are present - the long left hands (with the 5-1-5 fingering), the floating quality, frequent off notes, the beauty. I could listen to this all day and as for playing my wife says it sounds like music written for a single person, not a crowd.
@derby2510
@derby2510 2 жыл бұрын
Scriabin's synesthesia is philosophical, not something he experienced. He did not paint music. It's people being confused as to how literal to take his music and color theory.

That change between mm.12-13 in the Eb major Prelude. It's little things like this that I'm only starting to notice after about the 100th time listening through these pieces. For context, 26:35-26:45, but it's that key change. He does something VERY similar in his 4th Sonata (2nd movement) where there's this feeling of ascending. It's just this pure satisfaction. Hard to explain... anyways... listen to that part in that Prelude, you'll know what I mean :PP

32:31 - 24. in D minor - Presto This is something incredible, heavenly. The alternate size of 6/8 - 5/8 only confirms this

Sublime cycle of preludes, one of the most extraordinary to have ever been composed. And this version of Pletnev seems to me to be the best of all at the moment. It is as if it was connected to this music by an invisible thread.

Chopin's infleunce, so great in the very first works, begins to decrease here, but the actual personality which lies behind is not still so strong.Scraibin is looking foran expression of his own. We have here a splendid album of quite inventive pieces.

Gérard Begni I’d still say a lot of these are Scriabin-esque. Never really got the comparison with Chopin as romantic melodies are not exclusive to Chopin. Plenty of accidentals and a lot of odd numbers in regard to left hand figures, seems like the beginning of Scriabin’s adventure into his own sound.
