He has the same problem as Schubert, Schumann, and Debussy: Everyone presumes that their orchestral works are the most important thing they wrote. Those three composers as well as Scriabin wrote some of the most brilliant and imaginative keyboard music in the repertoire, but folks would rather hear something prosaic for orchestra rather than something challenging, and ultimately stimulating, for the piano.

Adding my many thanks for the sheer effort of matching sheet music with audio. Scriabin is perhaps the one composer I wish we had recordings. It's so enigmatic with its continual "rising", odd rhythms, strange chords and philosophical mishmash. His synesthesia allowed his to literally "paint" the music he "heard" as colors which explains a lot. Despite the fact that this was an early opus, all the Scriabinesque characteristics are present - the long left hands (with the 5-1-5 fingering), the floating quality, frequent off notes, the beauty. I could listen to this all day and as for playing my wife says it sounds like music written for a single person, not a crowd.
@derby25102 жыл бұрын
Scriabin's synesthesia is philosophical, not something he experienced. He did not paint music. It's people being confused as to how literal to take his music and color theory.

Gérard Begni I’d still say a lot of these are Scriabin-esque. Never really got the comparison with Chopin as romantic melodies are not exclusive to Chopin. Plenty of accidentals and a lot of odd numbers in regard to left hand figures, seems like the beginning of Scriabin’s adventure into his own sound.
