The calibre of fighters we are seeing these days is just amazing. Volkanovski has a legit championship mindset, and he is not just well rounded he is great in every area of the game. Truly one of the best fighters we have seen,
@bentonlewis9442 жыл бұрын
@Jay Russ I think that's a really interesting analysis. I don't think Volk is interested in winning by submissions (it's a tool in his toolset, but not one he likes, I think), but you're right in that he hasn't been tested by world-class wrestlers in his division. It's one of the reasons I'd like to see Volkanovski vs Cejudo. How would Cejudo's speed and athleticism, and potential for dynamic take-downs or the threat of them, interact with Volk's style? He talked about how his style nullifies the tools and tactics of most of his opponents, but he hasn't really been tested by someone like Cejudo. (That said, I'd like to see him destroy Cejudo, but what I'd like to see ain't necessarily what will happen).

I remember GSP on Joe Rogan saying that now that he's retired, he can finally reveal that he had a whole arsenal for southpaw stance. He never had to use it, but it was there in case he ever had to resort to it. I appreciate these fighters who are still in the game whose dominance rely on guile and misdirection, who are unwilling to reveal anything.
@julianpinto28952 жыл бұрын
It's crazy (from what it looks like) how much time GSP has spent in the gym training. He may be past his physical prime, but when it comes to skill/technique, he is probably much better than the GSP that fought Hendricks in 2013. I wonder how much of his gain in skill would negate his declining physical attributes.

Great interview. I'm a fan of Volk, both because I'm Australian and because he's next level as a fighter/martial artist ... but ... I find it very interesting how reluctant he is to really talk about Max, and how he avoided answering the question: Why has Holloway been the only fighter at Feather Weight who has challenged him? Why is Holloway so much better than everyone else? He did acknowledge it briefly, but it seems obvious: Holloway is by far his biggest threat at Featherweight, and he's already planning and strategizing for 3, and doesn't want to give anything away. Both Holloway and Volkanovski are ahead of the pack. The only way either are challenged is when they fight each other, or go up. They're both great; great fighters and great personalities. Very little bullshit from either of them. I'd like to see Volk vs Katter, particularly as Katter has improved after the thrashing he received from Max, but I think Volk would probably dominate Katter as well. CCC would be interesting; I think that guy is a threat to anyone. I'd like to see it. (I'd very much like to see Volk shut him up, but, for all his BS, the guy is world class). I'd also love to see Volk in Australia: put him in a stadium and we'll pack the house!
