Alex, you literally are a genius! Wow. As a straight-lashed gal, I love this hack. Now I can enjoy other hyped up mascaras and not wait for brands to maybeeee bring out a waterproof version. As a note to other viewers, water is the enemy to straight lashed folks and it is the first ingredient in non-waterproof mascaras, which is why it doesn’t hold our curl. Waterproof mascaras use isododecane and waxes as the first ingredient and water is way down the list (if in the formula at all) Guess what else is usually formulated with isododecane and wax as the first ingredients and has little to no water??? Freaking eyeshadow primers. That means, you may not need to use the UD primer, but one that you own currently will probably work for this. I have the Fenty primer and will be trying this ASAP and will report back!

I have blonde straight lashes and most of the time mascara makes them droop, even waterproof ones after about an hour (that’s probably because I don’t use a lash curler though). I really like your Kill Lash trick. I have lashes just like yours. I use that Rephr eyelash curler. Than a light coat of waterproof Kill Lash. I follow Kill Lash with a volumizing mascara, currently I am into MAC Stack with the big brush. It is tough to remove. The best thing I found is Pharmacy cleansing balm, wiped off with a micellar water cotton ball. The new peach one smells great.

Omg yes! Korean as well as Japanese mascaras are the only ones that can hold a curl for an entire day. I recommend the born to be madproof mascara by a’pieu and the kissme heroine make mascara. One thing you should know is that they’re pretty difficult to take off but it’s because they’re so good at holding a curl.

I’ve been using the heroine mascara for about 2 years now. It’s literally the ONLY mascara so far that can hold a curl for my straight lashes. I also get the waterproof one and it does not run/smudge at all (even during heavy/intense/HIIT workouts). And if you don’t want to buy the mascara remover that’s sometimes sold serperately, you can use micellar water for waterproof makeup and a gentle face cloth. At least that’s what worked for me so far :)

There are a lot of good mascaras from Korea and Japan, but as my lashes are straight, short and don't hold a curl as well... most still don't work. I've tried a lot of things and what I can recommend are a few things: • _pdc Pmel Essence Mascara Base_ (Japan). It's like max $20, it's perfect, it's clear, it's light, but omg does it hold the curl. It doesn't damage your lashes or anything. This one I'd recommend to Alex, I'm sure it'll work well for you! • _Clio Kill Lash WP Mascara_ (Korea) that Alex is using. It's one of my faves, if not my fave. It's very similar to _a'pieu Born to Be Madproof mascara lvl 2_ • _HOLIKA HOLIKA Lash Correcting Mascara_ - technically _#01 Hyper Curling_ is made specifically to hold the curl and that's it so it's pretty natural, but if you also need to lengthen your lashes go for _#03 Long Extension_ which not only holds the curl but lengthens your lashes to the sky. For other good mascaras, here's are the ones that work for my very annoying lashes: • _HEROINE MAKE Long and Curl Mascara_ (Japan) • _Canmake Quick Lash Curler_ (Japan) (the OG one, not the Separate one!) • _peripera Ink Black Cara AD_ (Korea) • _Etude Dr Mascara Fixer for Perfect Lash_ (Korea, primer/fixer) Depending on where you live, you can find those on Amazon, and if they're not they'll be available on YesStyle. That's very interesting! So I discovered this life changing tip for myself last year. My issue is I have very oily very hooded lids where my mascara will transfer on my brow bone within 20 min, every 20 min all day long. Makes no difference if it's waterproof, tubing, smudge proof etc. Got to the point I just don't wear eyeshadow because I know I'll have to constantly wipe off my lids of the mascara smudges. BUT life changing - the benefit 24hr brow setter. Duuude. So I apply any mascara I want, let it dry then use the benefit 24hr brow setter gel on the back of my lashes and front tips, anywhere my lashes may touch my skin. I haven't had ANY mascara smudge or transfer off onto my brow bone or lid since. It also oddly has made removing mascara easier almost like a tubing hybred. So I'm kinda curious if maybe the benefit brow gel would also be able to help hold a curl if it's applied first instead of after? Btw- anyone curious i tried this tip with tons of other clear brow gels and clear mascara and didn't work, only the benefit one works. Seriously, it has been a huuuuuge deal for me. Try it!

I tried your trick today with Milani Eyeshadow Primer on a spoolie and Milani Anti-Gravity mascara over top. I'm amazed!!! Not only does the eyeshadow Primer pre-plump the lashes a bit, it frigging held my sad little pin straight lashes practically vertical all day! 😂 I used two coats of mascara on the other eye with no primer and the difference was ridiculous lol. Up til now, the Milani mascara has just been OK but today they looked fabulous. Now I wanna try this trick with other mascaras! Thank you for discovering and sharing this game-changing tip!!

Yeah. I'm obv lighter than you, but I use a sheer metallic elf shadow stick (or pot color)for the eye shadow primer to do some multi level depth, but also leave my olive medium undertone showing through the shadow. That UD color was always weird and pink. I may use it for under eye concealer primer though.

@@freya6987 I have the L'oreal Volume Million Lashes in "balm brown". I like it cause it doesn't make my lashes clumpy and separates them nicely. Maybe you can build it up if you want thickness but I prefer the feathery lashes look.

I tried this with the sephora brand eye primer - which I loathe as an eyeshadow primer - and it worked amazing on my lashes! Like you, mine are average length, average thickness, but hopelessly lacking in curl and will not stay curled without waterproof mascara. (And even that doesn’t always work) This hack has me doing a damned jig. It works and I can actually use a product I’d otherwise have thrown away.

I'm a straight lash girl and definitely have needed to wear waterproof mascara daily. Espeeecially in the summer. Coconut oil has been an easy, gentle, and affordable remover so this hasn't been a terrible issue for me. However, this seems simple enough and im excited to try out this tip! Hey I have ocular rosacea so I can't (or shouldn't) do tightlining, waterlining, waterproof eye makeup of any kind, liquid eyeliner, or false lashes. My lashes are baby fine, sparse, short, straight and they inhabit deepset, small eyes with hooded eyelids. I don't even try to curl them. I'm currently loving this tip from you - and I'm using Revlon Ultimate All-in-One mascara. This product was popular three or more years ago, but I still find it at Marshalls for the ridiculously low price of $4.49. I have two backups. I originally bought it bc of the applicator, it's a silicone rubber type of brush but it's tiny - like elf's Wow Brow sized brush, but even tinier, and it's a semi-paddle shape with very short bristle-like bumps and a big hole in the center that holds lots of extra product. I can easily get a coat on the top sides of my lashes, as well as two coats on the undersides - with no smearing or smudging. I finally have lashes I can see, I don't care if I still can't curl them! I'm going to try your tip about using eyelid primer on my lashes first, bc all the mascara primers I've seen come with standard to large-sized wands with regular brush-type bristles, which just won't work for me. You should try the peripera ink mascara fixer! It's like a brow gel but for your lashes. I use it right after curling my lashes and it keeps them up so that I can use non-waterproof mascaras without my lashes going straight. It doesn't add any extra length or volume - just holds the curl.

I have the infamous Asian stick straight, down-turned lashes. Have used a few maybelline and the better than sex mascaras - nothing worked AND they all stained my under eye. Started using the inisfree skinnycara when I got into the No makeup look and it changed my life. Held up my lashes the entire day and no transfer, not even a crumb. I’ve recently started using etude house’s lash primer and I’m excited to try it with a volumising mascara for non day to day events. Definitely agree with that girl Becky, you should try Asian lash primers AND mascaras.

This was a good trick. I have pretty straight lashes also and the curl definitely falls throughout the day. I have found that Etude House Dr. Mascara Fixer (volume one) primer from Amazon (it’s like 7.99) works great. The other thing to do is to not put very wet mascara on curled lashes. It’s like getting curled hair wet. It will fall. So I wait for the mascara on the wand to dry a bit and it holds the curl as well. My fav mascara to hold the curl is Merit, It cosmetics Superhero, Dior Show and Lancôme Monsieur Big. But not putting on wet wet mascara is key.

So I tried this using the Elf eyeshadow primer and it works! I have straight lashes that turns slightly down instead of curving up so finding ways to keep the curl is a lifelong issue. I used to have to curl after applying mascara to get it to hold - such would make my lashes break more easily. With this method - my lashes stayed curled all day long and I don't have to recurl after applying mascara. It even makes my mascara look thicker. The only drawback is that sometimes the primer seeps through somehow and can make the lashes appear lighter in color. But making sure to coat the lashes really well seems to fix that. Thanks for this gamechanging tip Alexandra! I love not having to spend money for a separate mascara primer!

My trick is to use 2 mascaras - one that is more wet and gives you great volume, length, colour and so on and after that one I use a drier one (but beware of the crumbly ones) to set it. Finding thw two right ones for this makes this trick bulletproof. Gives you an amazing lift and it holds up forever.

When I DO wear mascara, I can ONLY wear waterproof mascara. My body chemistry just melts 'regular' mascara and I end up with raccoon eyes, every... single... time. I never wear mascara on my bottom lashes for this reason too, even waterproof mascara is a no go for my lower lashes. Here is the trick I use: I curl my lashes much like Alex does, turning the curler up and up and up. As soon as I apply mascara on one eye, I lay my index finger across the my bottom lashes on that eye and close my eyes, so my top lashes come down onto my finger, close my eyes slightly haeder and also rotate my finger ever so slightly so my lashes are more "upward"... I hold this for about 15 - 20 seconds while the mascara sets. Otherwise, even with 'every which way' curling technique and many different brands of waterproof mascara I have tried, my lashes droop. You should also try to put the eyeshadow primer on your eyelid and under your eye, maybe this way it won’t transfer

@@KZbinr_Sue My eyelashes are exactly the same 😑 Like my waterproof Mascara begins to melt off after a few hours, and my eyelids are oily as hell as well. Honestly, there's yet to be a primer that doesn't just melt off my greasy eyes. Funnily enough, the technique I use is not too different from you, but even so, I haven't found the perfect combo that doesn't lead to some level of smearing or transfer.

I have long, thick lashes, but very straight. Chemical lash lift has been life changing for me! I don't like fake lashes and find them too impractical for daily usage anyway. The effect I get with lash lift is amazing! I recommend it for everyone who has straight lashes. I do it at home and the one hour I spend on it every 6-8 weeks is absolutely worth it.

Love this tip Alex, you're definitely a fkin genius girl we all know that! Another tip for getting lashes to stay curled is to use a blow dryer to heat the eyelash curler (I'm sure a lot of people know about that trick already) then if you'd like to, after you apply each coat of mascara use a clean rounded spoolie to gently push them up into a curled position for like 10 seconds or so. Then when you have finished applying however many coats of mascara as you like, use that curved spoolie to very gently comb through your lashes, (if there are clumps) then use it to push them up into the curled position and hold it there until the mascara dries a little bit. I hope that helps a few people out 🙂

OMG!!! This is hands down the BIGGEST game changer make up hack I have ever tried. I watched your video and tried it with my own eyeshadow primer/mascara combo (FYI-Thrive Causmetics Eyelift 360 waterproof primer and their Lash Extension Mascara) and I am steady serious when I say my lashes Did. @@brooke7063 i'm not that person, but for me "heimish" smudge-proof did it - it's tubing mascara, so you can wash it off only with warm water. i suppose other tubing ones will do the same, but haven't tried others.

I’ve spent so much money on mascara and eyeliners, trying to find ones that won’t transfer, and in the end it was that mascara and a cheap-as-chips Catrice eyeliner that actually stayed where I put them. Edited to add: I have hooded eyes now too, hence the transfer issues.

@Brooke Mascara smudged on me my whole life & I would end up looking like a raccoon. Actually gave up wearing makeup for years because of that. Then I found Thrive Causemetics Mascara! It’s a true tubing mascara and only comes off with warm water. I live in the southeastern USA (hot & humid half the year) and have ZERO transfer! It’s not a thickening mascara but great for lengthening and no more panda eyes!

I tried this today and it WORKED! I can’t believe it! I curled my lashes, used Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, let it set for a couple mins and curled again, then applied Lancôme Monsieur Big waterproof black mascara. Currently on my 6th hour and they’re still curled! Usually they’d have dropped after 30 mins. Thank you Alex!! 💗

Hi (A little of matte setting spray a little of setting powder) -setting spray (spray in my finger apply it in to my lashes let it dry for a minute) -setting powder (apply to the lash curler band with a little fluffy brush every time your going to curl them) So that’s my trick 😊

Just like hair perms its not the best for the hairs, it can be costly, and depending on the growth cycle it doesnt last that long

I find your voice so comforting and the pace of your videos. I use the elf clear mascara and then black mascara on just the tips (I have dark lashes). I make sure there isn't a lot of product on the spoolie, because my lashes like to clump together.
