Adjuncts are basically part-time faculty members, but they don't get the benefits that full time professors do, like solid pay, pursuing tenure ,and sometimes things like insurance and stuff like that. That's why Elsie has to work multiple adjunct positions at different schools and why her interviewing for the job is such a big deal. Academia is wild in that way, it's so hard to get a position in higher ed unless people retire, lol.
