Scott Stewart “Full of myself?” Wha.....? “Bragging about...?”” How is knowing about the biggest bands and singers in recent history being full of myself, let alone me having “cultural experiences? “ There was a time when I was a kid I hadn’t heard of them, but being there when MTV came into play and actually played almost primarily music videos, well, that helped a lot. But we didn’t have the internet or KZbin, which makes all the classic rocks bands even MORE accessible And these are WORLD famous bands and singers that have been around since the “60s! I know who Elvis and The Beatles are too, gee, guess that makes me a super snob. And ALL these I’m mentioning are about as mainstream rock and roll as you can get, they’re not shadowy indy bands that only a few people listen too. They transcend generations! It’s one thing to have not heard their music (which, since they’ve been around for over half a century would be rather difficult) and another to not have heard of them. Their names are in movies, books, TV...and all over KZbin! Oh, but whatever. I suppose there are people who don’t know what Star Wars or Star Trek are, though they’re probably in a 6|-10 year old range. Maybe you should try NOT living in a bubble and broaden your horizons. Also, I don’t follow Rap music. It’s an amazing art form, but a lot of it is too hard sounding for me, some of it downright violent. Same with some if the heaviest forms if heavy metal. I prefer to understand the lyrics, and would rather be able to enjoy voices, like Freddie Mercury’s and David Bowie’s. So no, not my thing, but no disrespect to rappers and rap fans, it’s awesome they love it! I know some of the older groups, like you’ve mentioned, and DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince (that’s what rap was like when I was a teen) but while I’ve heard of other artists, some of whose names are not all that “name-like” really, but some bands have weird names too, it’s all good. And if you think awareness of (and the enjoyment of) groups and singers that have been around longer than I have is bragging, so be it. But that’s kinda weird.

@@DravenGal Why did you put quotes around "bragging?" I never said any such thing. I said stop being so full of yourself and your cultural experiences. Writing credit for “Under Pressure” is shared between the four members of Queen (Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon) and David Bowie. Bowie’s account of the song is this: 'The song was written from the ground up on the night I visited their studio. I believe the riff had already been written by Freddie and the others so then we jointly put together the different chord sections to make it a cohesive piece of music. Then Freddie and I came up with our individual top line melodies. So when you hear Freddie sing, that's what he wrote and when you hear me sing, that was mine. Then we worked on the lyrics together. I still cannot believe that we had the whole thing written and recorded in one evening flat. Quite a feat for what is actually a fairly complicated song.'

You can listen to George Michael performing “Someone To Love” and recognize what a fantastically beautiful voice he had, and how incredible his skill was in using it. Brian May even commented that there moments during that performance that were “pure Freddy”. But Mercury had an almost etherial quality that might not be duplicable, period.

You do know that this is a mix of two different concerts. Someone took the Queen concert from 1986 and combined with a later date David Bowie concert, The song "Under Pressure" was the result of a jam session at the Queen recording studio Montreaux, Switzerland. David had a house near the studio and Queen was recording an album when he came for a visit. Freddie and David had become friends before either of them were famous. John Deacon had come up with the bass riff and they all thought it was good so they used it to create a song called "People on the Street" later renamed to "Under Pressure". Freddie and David, though friends, actually got into a bit of friendly competition with each other while writing this song. I believe Freddie hit a high note in this song that he never hit again. Because of scheduling conflicts, Queen and David Bowie were never able to perform this song together live. Queen rearranged it for their live performances to use Roger to harmonize with Freddie. I don't think that David ever performed it live until after Freddie's passing.

The lawsuit about Ice Ice Baby, pretty much broke Vanilla Ice. Now hes an "actor" in Adam Sandler movies, and tries to flip houses on TV.
@Keston13025 жыл бұрын
Merlin Evseichik Exactly! He’s just a one hit wonder. I can’t name 1 Vanilla Ice song other than Ice Ice Baby whereas I can name tons of other Queen songs other than Under Pressure.
@merlinevseichik94795 жыл бұрын
@@Keston1302 his major problem was sampling a Queen song. You dont fuck with Queen, and if you do, you earn permission to, period. Its like he never expected anyone to realize he sampled, a Queen song, lied about it, and tried to run with it.
@Keston13025 жыл бұрын
Merlin Evseichik I agree. He didn’t ask or do anything. I saw an interview where he said that he now owns the rights to Under Pressure which must be a lie. Anyway he is only famous for 1 song whereas Queen are famous for countless songs.
@merlinevseichik94795 жыл бұрын
@@Keston1302 i think it ended up being a settlement to where technically, his beat WAS different, but it was close enough to Under Pressure to where he had to pay out, and any future revenue from "Ice Ice, Baby" goes to Queen. Hence why you never, or RARELY hear Ice Ice Baby on the radio, even throwback rap stations rarely play it.

I love this song so much. Their vocals compliment each other so well. Plus, when the backing vocals kick in at around 4:43, that is the drummer Roger Taylor. LOVE that man! His vocals are a sound all of their own, his solo stuff is brilliant too. I enjoy your reactions so much!

I'm a metal guy to the core but I'm so thrilled he's discovering Freddie Mercury. If you put everybody that's been called the GOAT of their sport/profession into one room, Freddie would be the GOAT of all the GOATs. And when he said "the pipes of a divine messenger" I got a little chill. So absolutely perfect.
