Want to SCALE your business? Go here: acquisition.com
Want to START a business? Go here: skool.com/games
If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
Never quit,
Alex
FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

Alex's editing team: get rid of the insane editing with camera jumps every second; get rid of the idiotic camera angle "Alex is staring at a camera, let's film him from the side as he is staring at another camera", get rid of the idiotic background music. Tiktok videos are painful to watch when they are 10 seconds long, an hour and a half long tik-tok style video is basically unwatchable.

I realized something when you talked about happiness. All of my friends and family tell me that "All you think about is your business and the gym" "You are going to become sad". And I never really do anything for myself to "make me happy". I am working around 3 hours a day on my business, still in school and working out 2 hours a day. I never really anymore hang out with my friends. But wierdly, I am the happiest I have ever been. And I think that it connects to what Alex said about "If you stop trying to become happy you will become happy".

Also realize that friends and family often project their own insecurities onto you and so what they reveal has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them. You are the owner of your own happiness and that needs no external validation. Sometimes people wish they had the courage to do what you are doing, but instead of saying that they project their lack of courage on you. Keep doing you and prioritize your needs.

I was suicidal for the whole high school and even after that for 2 years. I was a procrastinator and without a doubt a loser. Depressed all the time with no joy for life. Met some strangers from Spain and their energy actually gave me life, their perspective shifted my perspective from top to bottom. Once I stopped thinking about being happy and started actually working, improving myself, just let things be things, one day at night, I thought and realized that I wasnt suicidal for a while and I was enjoying my life more than ever. So, definitely dont chase happiness because you wont have it. I couldnt agree more

Talk therapy doesn’t heal the energetic wound. We energetically attune to each other (Bluetooth style) especially our children. This is WHY we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Maybe we can be the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with? If we believe it, it’s true. I’m choosing to be the sum. Anyway, I’m an energy healer and I’m happy 99%. Because I’ve finally learned to love all the aspects of me & my reality is a projection of my subconscious. Only problem is I’ve still got blind spots where I’m not conscious, especially around business and money. I just had a download and am claiming that I am gamifying business, finances, and attracting amazing collaborations for the highest good of all. Win-win-wins! I’ve already gamified everything else in my consciousness, so far, so this is like the final frontier for me. Maybe I’m feeling a little overinflated at the moment, but I’m going to ride this wave out, lol

The part about his team member thinking of himself as “bad” or “too nervous” to do public speaking and then fixing it with practice and hours made so much sense, people ruminate and self reflect on past experiences, Ruling out full on realms of life that can bring so much achievement and fufilment to their life, when the solution is one that is logical and practical and doesn’t bring emotion into the mix. You’re not as good at something as someone else who is good. You think you are bad at something but you just haven’t practised it nearly enough, it makes so much sense. Thanks Alex

What I learned, Being able to excel in a specific area and help others with that skill set can earn respect, money, and personal happiness. Equation. There is an equation for every area, you need to figure out what your input/output is. Likewise, you end up doing junk volumes when you start lifting, it's natural to do shitty work when you are a beginner of anything. Happiness through achieving goals is bullshit. You need to learn to love the process.

As long as healing is a byproduct of people just going out and doing whatever is meaningful to them. Healing then automatically is a product of you proving to yourself that you can be and are a different person and that you are capable of great things. Pushing through things even if you dont feel like it leads to confidence. The people who "heal themselves" through focusing on their problems and talking about them all the time are ones who are never going to actually heal and they waste a lot of precious lifetime.

Amazing video! It truly highlights how important it is to find joy in the process rather than just focusing on the end goal. The lesson I took away is to shift my mindset from achieving happiness to enjoying the work itself. Great job

Wow, this video really resonated with me. The idea that happiness is a byproduct of meaningful work rather than an end goal is eye-opening. The lesson here is to focus on daily efforts and growth, which ultimately leads to fulfillment. Fantastic content!"

Buddy. This was good. I can resonate with this guys approach to hard work. Nobody will ever respect the amount you incorporate into every great thing you pursue but the end product will be appreciated by many. ( not all because some don’t appreciate anything ) And.. you can feel good about your achievements because putting in the miles just builds you as a person!

Happiness is the blue sky and white clouds, cuddling with cute dogs and cats, laying on green grass and having a nice picnic with your friends and family. Happiness is so easy to reach, its just a touch away. Success meanwhile, you have to work for it.

This is so valuable! The part where Alex said stop trying to be happy and be OK with being unhappy created so much freedom in one statement. I have found that I know the big things that will make me happy. What trips me up is dealing with unhappiness on that path to get there. I think that’s similar to the example Alex gave of biology not making him happy, but if somebody knows that being a doctor will allow them to help people in the way that will bring them a lot of happiness, then it’s worth it. This is such a great podcast! Thank you.
