Alexis Arguello vs Andrew Ganigan

Alexis Argüello (April 19, 1952 - July 1, 2009), also known by the ring name El Flaco Explosivo (lit. "Skinny the Explosive"), was a Nicaraguan professional boxer and politician. As a boxer he was a three-weight world champion, having held the WBA featherweight title as well as the WBC super featherweight and lightweight titles. He has regularly been cited as one of the greatest fighters of his era, having never lost any of his world titles in the ring, instead relinquishing them each time in pursuit of titles in higher weight classes. After his retirement from boxing, Argüello became active in Nicaraguan politics and in November 2008 he was elected mayor of Managua, the nation's capital city.
Arguello is ranked 20th on The Ring magazine's list of "100 greatest punchers of all time" and was voted by the Associated Press in 1999 as the #1 junior lightweight of the 20th century.

Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy were a great fight team...I couldn't wait for the fights to start after these pre-fight promos...Ferdie Pacheco was another great announcer from this era... Great 5 rounder...I remember watching this live as a teen...

24:15 - 24:37 is the only disappointing thing about the video because of the thumb nails covering the screen but other than that, great video.... Arguello was a master boxer, one of the true greats. Excellent and destructive performance.

Ring magazine listed Andy Ganigan as the 99th ( or 100th) greatest puncher of all time. To get dropped by such a man and get up to win by knockout tells you all you need to know about Arguello. By the way, O'Grady gave up his WBA title to claim the lightly regarded WAA title but, for all intents and purposes, Ganigan could be considered a defending champion here by virtue of his win over O'Grady.

素晴らしいボクサー だけど やっぱりライト級が限界かなという感じがこの試合みてするね プライアーは未だに歴史的評価は低いと思うけど個人的にはオールタイムPFPでもトップ3に入ると思ってるんだが そんなボクサーに四階級目で当たってしまったのはなんとも不運に思えてしまう まぁ現代なら五階級迄は制覇してるだろうし、今のボクシングの複数階級制覇なんてほとんど意味なくなってきてる クロフォードみたいなホントにいいボクサーもいるけどね ただアルゲリョのボクシングはホントいいわ〜 こんなジャブ打てるボクサーホントおらん ご冥福をお祈りします

I hate comparisons between fighters of different eras but guys like arguello and fighters before him were so great and fought often. Alexis had just about gone 15 very physical and brutal rds 48 days before this fight. Hard for anyone to argue with whether any guys now could match the level of this era any before it.

There are many guys that can do it. A lot of guys you cannot hurt even with a beisball bat. It’s just unhealthy. They also liked to drink jet fuel during fights these times (Pryor reference).

Nah, Arguello's previous fight was a sixth round ko win against James "Bubba" Busceme about three and a half months before this fight. A bit earlier in his career, Arguello did fight Ray Mancini and Robert Elizondo about 48 days apart.
