USWNT had rather easier draw in the knockout stages, assuming both Spain and Sweden topped their groups. Norway and Japan didn't possess much better quality right now. England will still face Australia, Canada, Brazil, Germany, and France in the knockouts. Not an easy deal for reigning European champions to reach as further as final.

Oh plz. No one and I mean no one is underestimating them. This team will truck thru pool play.

Quite a few Euros have been dogging the team for months in the leadup. Saying things like "they're not skilled, just strong and fast" and "the unfair advantage has ended". Funny how that 2nd one works considering the two biggest Euro leagues are both older than the NWSL and somehow its only unfair now.
@iansanchez966 Жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone is underestimating the U.S. They're the two-time defending champions, if anything, they have a huge target on their back as the team everyone wants to beat. Nevertheless, I'm rooting for the three-peat. It will be difficult, but the US is a solid team, we'll see if they can do it

Any new outlet or media source that is not US based does not have them winning it. They are only considered the favorites because they are the defending back-to-back champs. A lot of it has to do with the fact that there are many players that would be in the squad of they weren’t injured

Canada soccer is in turmoil. The men's team disappointed a lot in World Cup and Gold Cup, as well as not playing friendlies on June due to the insufficient money. The women's team will likely disappoint again, preferably an early exit just like the 2011 edition, when they did not collect any points in the group stage.

I think the USA are overrated given they have lost to all the best European teams in the last 6 months and it is clear European has closed the 50 year title 9 gap in just 3 years of professionalism. Nationalistic US coverage of this World Cup where they are only talking about USWNT shows why it would be bad for US soccer if the men’s team become real contenders, because the coverage of soccer will become like the US media coverage of Olympics, which is widely regarded as the worst in the world due to it’s insular nature

In Women's - It's USA or North America USWNT never missed out Semi final list in their world cup history since 1991. 4x WC(1991,99,15,19) 3x Third place (1995,03,07) 1x Second place(2011-lost only on penalty shootout) Btw they are 4x Olympics Gold medalist,1x Silver,1x Bronze.

Stop this nonsense America always spout about if our best athletes played soccer we would dominate. Soccer isn’t simple sport like basketball or American football where raw athleticism dominates. If that was true in soccer, Africans with far better athletes than America would dominate soccer and they don’t, because is a more complex sport where just being fast and powerful isn’t enough to be the best. The US women’s team dominated due to title 9 because they had 50 year head start on the rest of the world with the best funded and most professionalised soccer program for women in the world, the rest of banned female soccer in the 1970s and 1980s and was amateur to semi-professional until 2017. USWNT dominated because they were the only professional team in an amateur sport. What shows you that the USWNT aren’t actually individually good is because only 4 years of fully professional players in Europe, they have already closed that 50 year gap. Culture also influences good a team is and the fact the USA cannot produce a number 10 and number 9 shows the USA coaching is not good enough, so even if their best athletes played soccer they still would not be a top 10 nation.
