“Nick Lowe is our hero” - Jeff Tweedy. And he should be yours too; he certainly is mine! Too bad about Rockpile, great talents in there but I’m more than satisfied, delighted by Nick Lowe’s incredible career output. See the album “Quiet Please”, that’s everything you need to LOWE. One of the most unsung singer songwriter musicians of our on times. Didn’t get the respect he was owed on top 40 or classic rock radio, too bad so many people missed out on that body of work because radio radio radio.

@@mbogucci1 Riiiight. Their principal songwriter Mr Lowe - along with Jake Riviera, Dave Robinson and Lee Brilleaux - merely FOUNDED IT. And - along with Dave Edmunds and drummer Terry Williams (as members of Last Chicken in the Shop ) launched the '5 Live Stiffs' tour to promote the label in 1977. Gee- what was I THINKING???! Holy cow - just stop. I was THERE in the audience, perfesser. As well as being in attendance at E.C.'s storied June 1978 gig at Hollywood High. Find yourself another hobby, FFS. @@mbogucci1 That's your own arbitrary fetishism that you're applying to Mr. Bremner - all so that you can make your petulant claim. The band that became known as Rockpile on their one and only recording existed before they had ever conjured a name for themselves publicly and you wouldn't have known any better WHO the cast members were until some publicist TOLD you that drummer's name. No qualification of my great respect for Mr. Bremner's work intended here.

A lot of Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowes work in the 1970s could be classified as Rockpile tunes, they worked together in that time but for separate labels... Rockpile marked the era that they could work publicly as a team... Billy Brimmer... what a treasure, another unsung guitar hero, I long ago named Dave Edmunds, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck as honorary Americans...because they just don't seem British enough.😂

Loved this album and saw them at the time of release at the Roseland Ballroom on W 52nd - wasn't billed as a Rockpile gig, it was Edmunds's (or was it Lowe's?), but they did a lot of this album, and most of the band was onstage.

One of those bands where it seems that the members (on an individual basis) had more success and popularity than the band itself. Still a great, catchy tune.

acbulgin2...Thx very much for the info. It seems rare in music nowadays that an arrangement such as that would work. Glad to see they were able to do that...unlike in this this era, where sampling, copyright infringement, and other litigious situations are quite rampant.
@bloke_19xx334 жыл бұрын
acbulgin2 True, good points. Even in Dave Edmunds-only hits (ex Slipping Away...very underrated tune, Girls Talk),, the group as a whole were in his videos.For me personally, it got somewhat confusing telling them apart. The Rockpile ‘sound’ was so prevalent in Nick and Dave’s solo hits. No matter how we look at it...still great music that withstood the test of time (IMO).
