@@ninjanibba4259 I think if something stands out tonally from the rest of the movie its most likely ironic. She's supposed to be a common young girl activist trope character. And Anne's character crying while saying "yeah he's a feminist" should've been a give away (since also he literally did nothing that was feminist) I think people are just way too quick to anger or take everything at face value. There were worse jokes in the movie like galitzine saying "wait I need a moment....ok that was a moment" like the cringe I crunged when he said that.

According to an interview that Galitzine did a couple days ago, he's the one who picked the tats. " 'I went on Pinterest and found some cool tattoos that reflected him or could be part of his back story that maybe we don’t ever even refer to on-screen.' Nicholas explained how Hayes’ tattoo of a thistle was a nod to Hayes’ Scottish heritage, which is never actually touched on within the film but only adds to the depth of character. However, once he picked out his tattoos, he realised he had to actually sit in the makeup chair and get them etched onto his body almost everyday, leaving him negotiating with the makeup team to only get the ones definitely in shot."

We need to talk about Nicholas Galitzine because his filmography the past 3 years is really weird. He was: The prince in the Camila Cabello Cinderella remake. The soldier from Purple Hearts. The himbo/jerk football player from Bottoms. The prince from Red, White and Royal Blue. And George Villiers in Mary & George. He did all of those projects in 3 years. He has so much range and talent. I want to see more of him.

Fully agreeing with you, and I feel like it's the same argument as in the Anyone but you case : people crave predictability in rom-coms. That doesn't make them bad movies, it just makes them movies suited perfectly for their "niche" audience. And I put niche into quotes cause this category seems to be quite popular. Anyway, yes it's not as interesting as a thriller or movie with a twist would be, but very few movies could pull off rom-com with a twist and not end up disappointing every one. La La Land comes to mind and that's about it. Maybe that explains the decent 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, people know what they bargain for before watching this movie : either they still do and are happy with the predictability, hence their satisfaction, or they drop it and move on with their life which is perfectly fine.

yk i was pleasantly surprised by this film because when i heard people saying it was based on a harry styles fanfic i was bracing myself for the toxicity and 0 chemistry that seems to come with fanfics that get made into films/books. and like the worst thing he did all movie was do one play on her at the start by pretending to dedicate a song to her and for the rest of the film their relationship actually had chemistry and they were cute to watch interact with each other.

Slapping a good actress doesn't make garbage become good; it's just garbage with a good actress in it. Hollywood, do better... love your videos alex

I don't think it's about making a garbage movie good. It's about making an otherwise unremarkable garbage movie something to talk about and watch. Anne Hathaway gots that star power to get people to watch it, and that's all Hollywood needed from her. I know I 1000% would not have watched if not for her being in it.

Besides the fact that this was basically a Wattpad movie, my 2 main issues with this movie was 1. The daughter seemed waaaay too cool with her mum dating a young famous pop star and 2. The ending seemed too convenient with the fact that 5 years had passed yet Solène and Hayes were in the same place in their lives and careers and nothing had really changed. I really thought Solene and Hayes would bump into each other after 5 years and he would be married with a couple kids or something.

I think it's implied that 5 years later Hayes is a solo artist and not as big and the boyband is smaller. Also Solene went from 40-45 its not crazy that she hasn't found someone especially if secretly she's holding out hope for Hayes.

My husband and I, in our thirties, laughed this entire movie. Not because it was funny but because we are so aged out of this genre but it was a silly one time watch for us 🤣 I had fun but will never watch again lol.

It actually isn’t. The writer says that watt pad narrative has been taken and used for click bait. She even said it’s not really based on Harry Styles but when she pitched it she compared the main lead to Harry’s level of superstardom and since he’s a big name that’s why they keep saying it’s inspired by Harry. Also the two main characters were originally black but she changed the races to white because no one wanted to publish it the way it was originally written. And it had a different more realistic ending but they changed that too so it would be more tropey and watt paddy because apparently that’s what sells.
