The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps) recorded the album "It's Magic" with 16 tracks in 2017/18 to mark the 200th anniversary and released it under their record label Forsvarets Musikk. Because of the special anniversary, they asked Angelina (Angelina was 11y) to do the vocals on the album. As a special tribute to Angelina, two originals by Angelina were also released on the album. 👣💯 *AJ* 💯👣

Absolutely phenomenal performance from Angelina she was 11 years old with this amazing rendition, and great to see Angelina’s Grandma supporting her in the studio, great reaction thanks 🙏

When Angelina stated in an interview with Nadia Neophytou, that if not for Billie Holiday's influence on her, there would not be Angelina Jordan as a singer that we have come to know her to be, this rendition is the clearest description as to why Billie is her true, one and only musical mentor. You listen closely to the later rendition she performs in a sound booth and you can hear her emphasize so many areas of singing that Billie made famous. It begins with unique phrasing, but also goes into areas like breathy releases, radical key changes within lines of lyrics, going from singing to talking in lines of the song, and subtle nuances and inflections that made Billie known as the most improvisational singer of all time. All these facets of singing were invented by Billie and Angelina has adopted them for use by her whenever she performs a heartfelt ballad. Think about it. Angelina has heard all the great singers of all time but only Billie is placed alone at the top of the musical pedestal, separate from all other singers in her mind. No Billie........and no Angelina is what she is telling us, and a more profound statement of praise for an individual mentor is not possible. The facts are that Billie was a self taught singer, having no mentors. She was born 'poor' to a 13 year old prostitute and a father who was never around to guide her. She was able to struggle her way into the jazz clubs of Harlem where her improvisational jazz had her quickly crowned as 'Queen Of Jazz', and this was no small feat when you realize the depth of jazz talent that was around at the time. People wonder how Angelina is able to sing with such heartfelt emotional output when she surely didn't live the experiences listeners would think possible, knowing her age and sheltered life, so where does she draw this emotion laden output from ? The answer is Billie Holiday, for she had to come to learn about two devastating events that occurred in Billie's life. First was her learning that her father died because hospitals in the south refused to treat 'Blacks', and second was a poem she heard and turned into a recording of the same name, that being 'Strange Fruit'. It talked about how 'Blacks' were hung dead from tree branches throughout the deep south. The recording was banned throughout the south but still sold over a million copies.

ridgemanron. Thank you \for this...I had often wondered if Angelina was familiar with the genesis of "Strange Fruit". I don think it would be a good song for Angelina to cover because the powerful emotions that song can evoke can cause real damage to a singer who really Feels the meaning as Angelina does, and Billie Did. You probably know that Billie reportedly said that every time she sang "Strange Fruit" it took a piece of her soul with it.
@ridgemanron Жыл бұрын
Personally, I think it's a song Angelina would sing, but the reaction that would come from southern states is something 'Republic Records' and her family would not want this innocent girl to put up with when you think about the backlash that would undoubtedly come forth. I'm sure there are many who are appalled by the fact that Angelina gives a poor Black girl the title of her musical mentor, for there is still a strong current of racism in this country.
@rmcc42 Жыл бұрын
First let me say, I was born and grew up in the south. I was raised in a Christian home by a Mother who had very strong Christian beliefs and a father who grew up in extreme poverty and seldom, if ever, went to church as a young person. But he did have Christian beliefs, thou he was much more a "southerner" than my Mother! Because of my Mother I grew up virtually "color blind". Yes, if Angelina did this song today there would be some repercussions, but I truly believe (and hope) it would be less than what you think. More important, I believe that in a few more years Angelina will be viewed as much, or more, for her heart as for her songs! I honestly believe that the day will come that her power as a musical artist and humanitarian will allow her to speak out for the less fortunate people any and every where in the world; AND PEOPLE WILL LISTEN TO HER!!! And I think at that time she could and should sing "Strange Fruit"!! AS MUCH AS THAT LITTLE CHILD WANTED TO BE A "SUPERSTAR", I TRULY BELIEVE SHE IS MENT FOR SO MUCH MORE!!!!@@ridgemanron
@wayneraynal8487 Жыл бұрын
@@ridgemanron I hadn't thought of the possibility of backlash, although I should have. I didn't mean to imply that AJ couldn't do the son justice, but rather that taking the emotional anguish of that song into her heart would hurt too much...Even just listening to Billie sing it causes me Physical Pain....how much more so would an Empath as strong as Angelina Feel! You're right about the racism in our country, Unfortunately it isn't confined to "The South" !

It's safe to say it's not the lyrics that she is looking at, but probably the cord arrangement. I say that because, why would she, forgot lyrics that she had memorized at 7 years old? By the way she is 11 here. You'll probably hear arguments in the comments, about the authentic reacording. I don't give a sh*t it's still her singing, just like fly me to the moon at 12. 80% of her singing are boot legged( sort of speak) recordings anyway..the " It's Magic" passing, is always a little wierd, out of context. Thanks Richard..say hi to Ashlena.

She may not have sung the song since NGT so it’s possible the lyrics are on her phone as a reminder. The creator of the video explained why he ran that ad across the screen. Don’t remember exactly but I think the audio is from the actual album and didn’t always sync with the video so he used that ad at a cut.

You are actually reacting to a fan video which dubbed in the finished studio processed albun track, not the very worthy RAW phone audio, until her comments to family after.... go seek out the raw true booth audio. It is very good raw and more of true historic nature of her in the booth, with no adulteration... Also, the album ad scroll is covering a spot to cover uo/edit out a spot where the raw real has a lyrics-singing hiccup. You can also see anothrt spot with video drag, to resync album audio, after production fixes, to this phone video.
@kristena9285 Жыл бұрын
Apart from the "hiccup" as you call it it's the same recording. The "raw camera" version as recorded by an iPhone, and this as picked up by the professional microphone.
@rickrack4812 Жыл бұрын
@kristena9285 And what do you say happens to it between the time that it's picked up? By said professional microphone and then put down on a CD? Nothing? It is not at all raw after that point. And what you hear is everything. After the sausage factory puts it down to final Product. Mixing , fixing , editing, retake, cut n paste, EQ, balancing, R/L channeling, etc. Do you understand yet? The audio you hear on rusty's vid is the Album cut, it is not what you Here coming out of her mouth and into any type of microphone. It has been adulterated.. My point was that the Raw unadulterated audio, which comes right out of her mouth, is not only very good but historically significant for us to hear.. Beside that, rusty did not put a disclaimer on there. That this was an overdub of the studio final product..... Some know it does, but other people , probably like you, think that this is what comes out of her mouth... just like that... Magic... LOL. Do you understand it at all yet, that rusty did not use raw Audio coming out of that, professIonal mic, because he has no access to such raw audio? Should I say it 50 different ways? ... Now, if the reactor channels would play the raw audio . And then say, " now, here's what the studio did with it, to final product..." , THEN PLAY the audio Rusty used, THAT WOULD BE GRAND.. and, no, I do not know if RS got CopyR permission granted. I would ask, but after this, he disappeared from YT, concentrating on FB.
