I was one of those from another country, Costa Rica, at this concert! Actually I am from the States and retired here 18 years ago! At 81 I only really had 2 items left on my "bucket list"! One was to see Angelina perform live on the stage! Secondly, Unchained Melody has been my favorite song since I first heard and watched Bobby Hatfield perform it in 1965. For many years I did not think anyone would ever do the song better than Bobby although Elvis (my all time favorite male vocalist) came close. Then in 2015 I saw the video of Angelina at age 9 singing a short version of the song on TV! I said then that one day I would hear her do a better version than anyone else had ever done! That became the Second thing on my bucket list! I never in my wildest dreams ever thought that both things would happen at the same time! But on Sept. 22 there I set 30 feet from Angelina as she sing "Unchained Melody" better than ANYONE had ever done it before! I have never cried like I did while she was singing that song; not from sadness, but from the joy in my heart for I knew from the first note what she was about to do! And now I have one new item on my bucker list-- To be able to attend ever concert she does between now and the day I die!

Thank you for your kind words about me and for this great reaction. Thanks to my wife and the others who captured this video footage. And above all, thank you Angelina Jordan for this sublime performance! Everyone, if you haven’t seen her live you owe it to yourselves to se her in concert. As others have said here, recordings just don’t do justice to that exquisite voice..

Alex.... Chris did an amazing job on this with the audio. You had to be there for this one. As soon as she started you knew something was different. Nobody moved a muscle until it was over. Everbody was crying and clapping. My hairs were straight up the whole time. The whole room went somewhere beautiful with Angelina and we all woke up when it was over.

I was at the concert and though I thoroughly enjoyed the entire concert, Unchained Melody was the highlight. Chris did an outstanding job with the video but it didn’t scratch the surface when compared to being there. I can’t wait to see her again. If people from 37 states and 9 foreign countries can come to see her in New Hampshire, I can go to another country to see her also.

What I find stunning every time I listen to Angelina: she can sing so clearly at the slowest pace you can imagine. Most others won't be able to keep their voice under control so well. And.... isn't this her highest note ever she sings here at the end? And I agree with you: shout out to Chris Walker as well!!

This performance puts her on a level with the greatest rendition of this song that has ever been recorded, that being Bobby Hadfield of 'The Rightous Brothers' when he performed it live on 'The Andy Williams Show' back in the 60's. No one else has ever been able to generate the emotion laden penetration Bobby achieved, but Angelina is a student of the greatest improvisational Jazz singer of all time, that being Billie Holiday, and when you bring forth the elements she learned from Billie and incorporate it into a song on the level of excellence that Billie would have wanted to do, and achieve it, you belong in the same hallowed ground that marks where Bobby resides to this day.

Again her decision to slow the tempo to accentuate the vocals was exactly correct. It is similar to what she did with the Suspicious Minds cover, and It is wonderful, turning classic pop and rock into a crooner standard.

---- I was first row on the left aisle and Sara was next to me sitting in the aisle livestreaming the performances back to Rob Christie of Republic Records while also doing a FaceTime with Rob on her iPhone ---- Now, if Sara was willing to provide her recordings, we would have much of the concert from upfront and close ---- After AJ sung Whitney Houston's song I Have Nothing, that was supposed to be the last song of concert, Sara went up to the stage and asked AJ to sing Billie Holiday's song All Of Me. A member of crowd shouted that AJ had to do what mom asked. AJ went to sax player and looked to be explaining to him how to play. I believe she also said something to the bass player. It seemed the band understood as they seemed fine while AJ was singing

I was at the concert. IMO this was her best performance in Portsmouth. Unfortunately the acoustics were not good -- but Chris, of course, made the best of it! BTW, in her intro, AJ said this was a tribute to Elvis, but I think it's much more in the style of Bobby Hatfield.

Can't help wishing she had her band from Norway. Having watched her grow up they have an almost intuitive musical relationship with her. The drum was too heavy. It made it somehow old fashioned.

her cover was outstanding, and would have been other worldly if it wasnt for the drumming! The drummer or the sound man had the drums way too loud Such a shame however AJ is AJ! She can overcome anything and do any song justice like with Unchained Melody.
@hichambarrak2628 Жыл бұрын
On a song like this, Goddammit! the drums should be discreet. The drummer was out of bounds. It's clear they're amateurs and have no idea about Angelina's singing style. One may wonder where's Republic Records are in all this.

They’re not in it at all. I don’t think they had anything to do with it. As a general rule labels don’t do concerts, artists and management do. This concert was in response to an invitation from the concert venue to Angelina.

Clearly, for me it's a treat seeing an R&B artist backed by a band of brothas. Not saying her previous bands were not Excellent they were tops as were these guys. Don't shoot the piano player enhance the audio system to the enclosed acoustics. Bill Graham Productions had the best sound systems in small and large venues ever. But that superior audio these days would heavily weigh on the ticket cost. Anyone old enough to have left a Doors. Stones, Starship or James Brown concert complaining about sound quality probably forgot to remove the plugs from their ears. The acoustics at San Francisco's Filmore and Avalon Ballrooms definitely needed a great sound system which they had. Of course I was much younger then and that's possibly one of the main issues with AJ's Geezer crowd...the hearing aids don't filter the banging over the singer's voice so well. Take the kids with you to her next concert and ask them if the band annoyed them. You'd probably learn something about yourself and your ears.
@fredt7518 Жыл бұрын
I continue te think that a sax player is not very useful in this band ... whe hear a few riffs from him witch dont bring anything to AJ singing ... a guitar would have been more suited ...
