About time that a remix of "Enemy Within" from the original Deus Ex was made available to Deus Ex fans. The original sounded somewhat sad given that the song played when JC Denton had to leave UNATCO for good while troopers were out for his head. Then the combat theme played, reminding players that they're in hostile territory and they must either escape or defeat UNATCO Troopers. Can't help but feel bad for JC and everyone else who turned hostile on UNATCO property since what was considered a second home was broken apart by conspiracies.

I've always thought it sounded hopeful, and the combat theme sounded heroic because JCs' fight for a better future started now.

@@lemonismq4642 The last portion of the original song sounded uplifting, at least. Perhaps JC was slowly becoming optimistic again after all of the betrayals that he faced. Knowing that he had some folks from UNATCO on his side most likely helped.

It took me an incredible number of complete playthroughs before having the cold guts in going the lethal route. I had a hard time having to kill the troops you've chatted with before. Them changing the names (Cpl Collins and his buddy) to the generic ones didn't make it any easier. Plus the music and ambiance...

Well, Deus Ex came out 15 months after The Matrix. You could tell the stylistic influence of the movie (trenchcoat + sunglasses for one). When I first saw DX in gaming magazines my first reaction was 'Here we go, they've already made a Matrix game'. Obviously aside from certain aesthetics and references to conspiracy theories they don't have much in common.
