Great review, Alex - your enthusiasm is contagious and you "get it" - other reviewers are taking this too seriously as some kind of failed track/performance car - it's intentionally huge and meant to be fun, emotive, and a little rough around the edges... a charger/challenger has never been a thing of precision. Also WOW at you even "liking" the red turn signals on a muscle car!

I'm actually kind of shocked that they made them even bigger than the previous Charger/Challenger. Those cars were unavoidably large because Chrysler was adapting the Mercedes E-Class platform. The space and comfort turned out to be what people wanted in a GT car, so it worked out. But this just seems unnecessarily large, and I'm not sure who was asking for that. Still, I'm curious to see the 5-door.

Im 69 years old , and have a long memory . Yeah the Mustangs and Camaros could be had with 6 bangers , nobody paid attention to them , they were gutless . The Barracuda was hideous for the first round , got nicer for 67 , I believe , and came into it's own for 70 , with the addition of the Challenger . Again the slant six was a durable but nasty engine . I had one in a 78 Aspen , crappy performance and crappy mileage . This big boat is reminiscent of the 68 through 70 Charger . At the time if the Charger didn't have a big block , then people thought of them as dogs . The 318 was also treated with derision . These new cars definitely have the performance , but they don't look overly impressive inside for that much money .

The hood was missing, but was a CO car with no rust, bench seat, power windows . . . of course should have rented storage . . . sold it to an older guy with a red Road Runner with a trailer for $1,000. Later had a 1963 Chrysler New Yorker 413, great running gear but the push button tranny sucked. Worst car ever was a 1979 Volare' wagon Slant S**t, got as a winter car fall of 1988. Never put out heat, slow as crap, body quality junk. Peace.

Not having a V8 is a huge problem for this car. The overly complex 6 will be a nightmare out of warranty, given Stellantis's quality control and the depreciation will eye watering for electric and 6 cylinder models. Yup, well most of them anyways, I don't get the people that say DOA because it's an EV, to me they are the 20th century equivalent of the Amish stuck in the past. I've been a Mopar fan all my life, but honestly right now I far prefer driving my wife's Hyundai Kona EV over my Dodge Challenger, even with the Kona not being remotely designed as a performance car it's more fun to drive than the Challenger thanks to the benefits of the EV drive-train. Every time I drive my Challenger now I'm disappointed with not having 100% torque from a dead stop, much worse throttle response, and way more inconsistent throttle response over all speeds. The only thing making me hold off from buying one right now is their use of the now obsolete CCS connector, so I'm waiting till the add the NAS connector.

The only other EV styled along traditional lines is the Rolls-Royce Spectre, and it's even bigger. Oh, and even more expensive, and very isolating. Could Stellantis have built an even bigger Chrysler Imperial EV, where the electric powertrain would have enhanced the traits usually desired in a luxury car? Much as I'd have liked to see one appear, in two and four door forms, based on the fuselage era design, I hear enough questions about the quality of vehicles Stellanits asks six figures for to question their ability to pull it off.

Its worth noting the Challenger only outsold the Mustang because it was cheaper, and because Dodge was fine with doing sub-prime loans. This car is super expensive. This EV version really just seems like a compliance car. Since its built for an ICE powertrain, it makes a lot of compromises, such as having a transmission tunnel. I really think sales on the EV version are going to be very low. The gas model will likely sell fine.

@@Mildern I have not yet watched their video. However, from the day stellantis said that the EV and ICE versions of the car were going to use the same platform, we knew it was going to be compromised. The car would likely be lighter if it was an EV only from the ground up. With the EV version costing a lot more than the ICE version, the ICE version will likely sell much better. And in case it needs to be said, I like EVs when they are done well. Lucid makes an amazing car, Hyundai is making some great EVs. But this car seems like all those carbon credits that Stellantis has been buying for years finally caught up with them. And by finally building an EV, they can offset those. Many auto makers have made compliance cars (Spark EV, Golf EV, Bolt, etc) Maybe I will be wrong, and these will sell well. But with the sedan market shrinking every year, and this car costing as much as it does, coupled with the main demographic that purchased the previous generation cars hating EVs, I just don't see it selling well. And now I will go watch the other peoples videos on this car. This video popped up first in my feed.

This is a compromised design that has to account for a gasoline engine. This new Charger EV underperforms compared to pure EVs from Tesla and Rivian because those designs don’t have to try and fit a gas engine into the design at a later date. This means better 0-60 times and less weight for pure EVs than the compromised Dodge. The base new Charger EV underperforms compare to just a simply Tesla Model 3 Long Range and the Scatpack underperforms compared to the Model 3 Performance. And when the tri-motor Rivian R3X ships in a few years it will absolutely smoke all of the cars for less than $55k.

Thanks for the overview. The biggest question I’ve asked myself throughout is why someone would buy a car that is so large when the back seat looks claustrophobic (small windows) and the hatch area has very little useable space compared to an SUV taking up the same footprint. Why did they make this thing so big?

This car is the same length as the Hummer EV SUV. I think it is beautiful but I wouldn’t want to drive it even if I could afford it. I can’t imagine it will sell as an EV. Kind of a crazy work of art and a real head scratcher.

You buy a car like this because you love the looks and you want to drive it. Most people that are buying this car don't really care about passenger or cargo accommodations.

@@Molishious 1. It's 17 feet, which is the standard length of full-size sedans. 2. The Hummer EV is short. 3. The standard station-wagon of the 1970s, which was the standard family-car, was 19 feet, and people parked them just fine.

If this does well I could see a wagon version of the charger, it wouldn't take much to lift that rear end and square it off and it would put another "cuv" in the lineup

I love an oversized coupe. Hatch as well? I'm into it. But then the weight and price are killers. I could handle one or the other but its too heavy to be super fast and too expensive to be the cruiser of the people. Who's the target demographic? It's not the enlistment special. It's not the muscle car of the people. Its not the high performance connoisseur. Its not the tech bro. Its not the boomer nostalgic for the 60s car. Who's left?

For plenty of people, I love muscle cars, I'm very into tech, and as a Gen Xer I love the nostalgia of the 60's car based styling, to me it's damn near the perfect car with the only issue being that's honestly about $10k too expensive. Still once they ditch the obsolete CCS charging connector I'm selling my Challenger and buying one. Really I think it's just not for the 20th century equivalent of the Amish, people fearing change and stuck in the past, aka boomers.
@ThereAreNoHandlesLeft
@ThereAreNoHandlesLeft 17 сағат бұрын
@sandrahiltz fair points. I like the styling too. To me it just feels like sort of a bad enthusiasts car and sort of a bad EV. But I guess I'm missing a demographic who has the coin for spending this amount of money but doesn't need a particularly great EV or driver's car. No frequent long drives but you want your trips to be "special" in some sort of way.
@sandrahiltz
@sandrahiltz 16 сағат бұрын
@@ThereAreNoHandlesLeft Yeah, for me I want muscle car styling, but I still want plenty of space, 2 years of owning a Subaru BRZ taught me sports cars are not for me, I want good performance for real world New England driving conditions, aka a combination of dry, wet, snow, ice, and pot holes with more storage capacity than the Charger's frunk, lol. Even the range I feel is people making a mountain of a mole hill, even 240 mile range is 4+ hours of driving, regardless of what I'm driving, after that long I'm going to want to stop, stretch my legs and eat something, so stopping for more than enough time to charge it up. Not to mention it's not like muscle cars are know for ranging anyways, I average 19mpg in my Challenger so that's only a 350 mile range so not much better than the base R/T Daytona Charger which is 317 miles.

The 4 door ICE model might be a nice cruiser. I had a 2013 Charger R/T and it was really nice on the highway. The price is a bit ridiculous, traditionally, muscle cars were the performance vehicle for the common man. Meant to be affordable to the blue collar worker. 71k is not that. Hopefully the ICE versions are more reasonably priced.

Can one turn the exhaust sound completely off? EVs are supposed to be totally silent.
@66skate
@66skate Күн бұрын
US Regulations: In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) mandated that all EVs and hybrid vehicles must produce a minimum sound level when traveling at low speeds (up to 18.6 mph) to alert pedestrians and cyclists. This rule aims to enhance safety for vulnerable road users.

@@66skate I know this, doesn't mean i have to like it. I pulled the fuse for the speaker on my Bolt EV because the the sound 1. sucked (sounded like a roaring crowd) and 2. One of the whole points of EVs was for them to silent and stealthy. To be more specific can the Fratzonic part be turned off and just have the mandated sound be the only thing it emits?
