What I like about the adaptive cruise control on my Outback, if it brings you to a complete stop and traffic starts moving within a couple of seconds, it'll start to accelerate even after a full stop. If you're stopped for more than a few seconds, it will put your vehicle in hold mode. When traffic starts moving, you can just lightly tap the accelerator and it will function back up to speed again. An annoying part about adaptive cruise control and lane centering, it often thinks my hand is not on the steering wheel. It actually expects you to fight it a little bit every so many seconds, or it thinks your hand is not on the steering wheel.

I recently found your channel. I have a 2023 Subaru Outback and learned more in 2 weeks from your videos than from dealer. Very poor customer service in answering common usage questions. I rarely use cruise because it was "stiff". Told that is the way it is. Now I know how to adjust. And adaptive speed nearly caused a rear end crash because a speeder cut across in front and drastically reduced speed to avoid police and reduced my speed suddenly. I do not use cruise except on high speed highways with very little traffic. I was not educated on all the stearing wheel buttons and prefer visual demonstrations to " read the manual" answers from dealer. Several other videos have great tips. As a senior citizen who bought my "retirement" car for road trips, I appreciate your information.

Lane centering is 'fine' with nobody else around, but with anyone else around, I find it stays too close to them. I'll use it on LONG drives, like the 900 mile drive between home and Florida on the longer stretches of highway between cities... but beyond that I prefer just LKA/LDW. Love Homelink too, have all 3 buttons programmed, funny enough the first programmed buttons I've had were not my own home/garage... they were friends who I house sit for. I love PIN access. It can be finnicky to set up and occassionally use if you're going too fast, but I can enter the pin faster than I can open my phone, mysubaru, select the function I want, and wait for it to send... when I don't have my key on me.

Because of Right to Repair law in Massachusetts we are unable to access the Subaru My Link system. Our only option for remote start is to purchase with separate key fob remote which I had to do. There is a lawsuit pending to try and give "We the Customer" the option to have what is supposed to be an included service on our new cars for the first 3 years. They have never made an allowance for that to their new owners. Are you listening Subaru!

Being in Massachusetts, I'm really annoyed at the fact that Massachusetts right to repair bill is vaguely written and you do not get the Subaru remote functions. I wish Massachusetts and Subaru would get there butt in gear, and get this straightened out.

@@skateata1 in Massachusetts, you cannot have the Subaru app to be able to remotely start your car from the phone, unlock it, or other settings. Does that help?

Thanks. Can you show how to disable the door handle auto key fob disable function. Sorry I don’t know the best description for the function. I read that a Subaru owner was sleeping in his roof tent and woke up to his vehicle door open and he had been robbed.

On my 2023 Outback, per the big owner manual: on the key fob, while holding the Lock button down, press the Unlock button twice. An LED on the key fob will slowly blink on the upper left four times to confirm. This also disables keyless start. To reenable, touch any button on the keyfob (so you have to be careful to store the keyfob where a button can't be pressed). Or buy a "Key Fob Faraday Bag" (websearch it) and store your fob in there when you want to disable this stuff.

Alex! What can i say, without your video's I'd be lost. Just bought a 2025 Forester and this old timer would have been lost without your helpful video's. One question i have is regarding the side gas door. I live in NJ probably the last State that they wont allow you to pump your own gas. Therefore, we stay in the car. Is there any way to keep the doors locked and still allow the attendant to open the gas door? I believe from a past video you stated you have to unlock the passenger door before the gas door will open. Many thanks again!! Anthony

So happy to hear I’ve been able to help! Yes, just simply click the unlock from your door to allow the attendant to open the gas door. Then immediately lock it right after they open it. They can still close the gas door while the car is locked. Hope this helps!

Hi Alex. Just one note about the Homelink, that I also mentioned in your other video on how to program it. On my car (2023 Subaru Forester Limited), the ignition has to be on to program or operate the Homelink feature. I know in your other video the ignition was off.

Hey Alex, love your content! I have a 2021 Forrester with the manual AVH button however when it turn on (and the AVH illuminates), my Subaru does not hold place when I take my foot off the brake. Did I miss something or does your foot have to be on the brake for a certain amount of time before it holds in place?

2020 Outback here, but I've noticed AVH won't hold the brakes if you are only applying the brakes enough to stop the car. Press the brake a little bit more (I usually press it almost completely to the floor to ensure it activates).

I like the idea of apple car play but I don’t like Subaru’s implementation of it in my 2024 Subaru Outback. The app consistently drops calls after a minute or two and Apple Maps or any gps app stops working at sometimes the worst times. I have an iPhone 14 with updated software. After three Outbacks we maybe looking for a vehicle that more consistently connects with apple car play. It is an important interface with our car that we use a lot.

I'm not a fan of Lane Centering. It doesn't allow you to take your hands off the steering wheel by detecting if it feels resistance from your hands, which is a good thing. However, this means it feels like you are continually wrestling with the steering wheel because if you are just gently holding the wheel it fusses at you that your hands are not on the steering wheel. In corners it's like a pinball bouncing from side to side. To me, it hugs the center line, making it very uncomfortable when semi trucks pass me.

I was able to get the AVH button down loaded so it appears next to the auto stop start button. It appeared on my latest over the air download from Subaru. I didn't have to go to my dealership to have them do the download.

…Alex, question for you…my 2022 Crosstrek has somehow fallen into disengaged proximity sensor and it doesn’t respond to the “door unlock” process shown in the Subaru manual, apparently because that works only when it’s disengaged by the same process…no help from my dealer yet…any ideas?…fobs let me do the basics but no proximity aspects including starts which requires touching the start button with the fob…any assistance much appreciated…Kirk in Coronado, Ca

Hi I bought my Subaru Forrester in 2020. Two days ago I noticed I had a bunch of splits in my car seats. along the side by the sewn edge. I have no Idea how or why this happened. I am extremely upset, I have had lots of used cars that the seats never split. I bought my Subaru new and have only had it 3 1/2 years. I have a 2021 too, mine does it when it can't read the lines on the right side of the lane, they're faded or there's a long opening at a exit or entrance ramp. Also it will turn off all of it if it starts raining.

I have a 2024 outback premium . Sometimes the alert doesn’t work while in Reverse . Has anyone had this problem ? It’s like it works and then it doesn’t . Someone can walk behind my car while I’m in reverse and the beeping sound does not sound.

I have a 2024 Forester. The android auto disconnects all the time. The best a had it stay on is 20 minutes. I can't listen to audio books or use my waves app. Also, having to unplug and plug the phone to get the app to restart is not the safest way to drive. Do you have an answer to this? Frustrated!!

I just Bluetooth my phone to the stereo instead of using android auto. I can still select Pandora or Spotify on my phone but it will play through the stereo. Can still use stereo controls for volume, skip etc

One of my favorite features (if Subaru ever makes it a reality) would be... to be able turn off the Auto Start/Stop function for good. I cringe every time forget to turn off the Auto Start/Stop and my Subaru engine stops at a traffic light.

Subaru will not rewrite software to allow this. They need Auto Stop Start to help meet US mileage standards. There is a hardware hack for about $100 that works automatically once installed to shut Auto Stop Start off. (Websearch "Smart Stopstart.") Alex has said in his videos that he doesn't recommend using these devices, in part because if you don't put them in just right, you will disable or block your EyeSight safety cameras. But they do work and don't cause other problems if you put them in correctly. Keep in mind that Subaru at some point could do an update that keeps these devices from working.

The car will automatically engage the emergency parking brake. You can still use your brake as normal. No need to use AVH if you don’t want to.
