@@jimtrantham4532 This. It's the whole team effort. You see our star receiver throwing blocks downfield on every play he can get into. Tim Patrick has had a few blocks already this season where it made me question how teams let this guy slip through the cracks. I've seen Monty take so many blitzes to the chin to get Goff the time he's needed that I cant even count them. You're starting to see it on the special teams now, too. The entire squad is bought into the culture MCDC built and they're all playing for each other.

Go watch the Saints Rams championship game (yes, the one with that bad call), but loudest game you'll ever see. Goff can't hear his coach, and they are going off hand signals. I don't know how many other QB's in the league win that game. He has some physical limitations as a tall lankey guy, but he is resilient, mentally tough guy. Also, Brees threw 2 picks after that bad call so really can't say that was why they lost. If your QB gets 2 more chances with the ball and throws a pick each time, that is why you lost.

One of the things that I initially hated about Goff was that there were times he'd get rattled and I swear you could see it in his face. From there things normally seemed to go downhill fast for him. Since his time with the Lions he's evolved so far away from that and matured immensely. I still can't believe based on how much I love him now that I used to dislike him so much.

Simple observation; there comes a point where the game starts to slow down for ANY QB, and they start being able to exploit pressure, especially from blitzes. You're seeing something similar with Sam Darnold in Minnesota. It's a matter of surviving in the league long enough to reach the point where you've seen pretty much everything NFL defenses will throw at you.
@JuwanBuchanan
@JuwanBuchanan 19 күн бұрын
Goff isn’t doing anything fancy. It’s just that Goff has been playing so much that things have gotten easier and has slowed down for him that he’s used to it. You can apply this logic to any video game you play. Goff knows that he’s go be blitz but the game has slowed down for him until the point that he’s used to the pressure of the blitz. Goff has simply evolved as a QB that simply blitzing him and expecting him to panic doesn’t work anymore

Don’t worry he’ll come crashing back down to earth soon like Sam “I’m seeing ghosts” darnold has in the last few games. Watch Goff’s eyes. He doesn’t even pay any mind to the pass rush. A guy could be a millimeter away from tearing his head off and his eyes are still locked downfield looking for a play. You can tell he’s got confidence in his protection. The coaches giving him full control of calling audibles or changing protection definitely doesn’t hurt either.

This happened to Cousins, the most similar QB to Goff later in life, slightly earlier in real time. Neither are good at improvising when plays break down. Both tend to get uneasy when this happens. So both tended to get upset & off their game. Late in '22 Cousins showed signs of getting over this & started winning clutch games. Goff showed _NO_ signs of getting over this last year & the Bears almost swept them. But this year he's shown no signs of being rattled by this anymore. Without that, what gets to him? As a Lions fan, I loved Stafford. My least favorite thing though was his gunslinger mentality. I understand why though - he HAD to carry the team a lot and make some heroic type plays. But man do I LOVE watching Goff play. In addition to his comeback story I just love the way he plays. He knows when a defense has the play beat and almost every time, instead of forcing a bad play, or causing a receiver to take a bad hit, he just dirts the ball. Part of this is his field vision but a lot of it is confidence in the offense as a whole. There is pressure in a 2nd and 10 to get some yards to make 3rd down more convertible. But Goff has no problem burning the play because he's got 4 guys who can get 10 yards next play no problem.

Here's the thing. The thinking is "Goff under pressure". He's fine under pressure as long as he gets the ball away. He's just not very good at avoiding sacks. But he doesn't throw many INTs under pressure, instead usually making the other team pay dearly for blitzing him.

Funny thing about the trade is that even though the Rams got the SB win, that is all that Stafford done for LA. The success that Goff has brought to the Lions is beyond anything Stafford had been able to do in a decade on the team. A win tomorrow night will be the best starting record since 1953. A SB win and continued success for seasons after would make that trade a wash all in favor for Detroit.

Goff was never a bust, but he's certainly raised himself up into the elite level. I think Goff is another qb who teaches the lesson Geno Smith, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and even Joe Flacco and Jordan Love, to some extent: playing qb for an nfl team is really hard, and almost always takes years to master. I don't know if that will make teams more patient with young qbs, but surely it should make teams willing to give former "busts" a second chance, sspecially if they can do so on the cheap. Or qbs that were drafted by the Jets, Browns, or Panthers and been labeled "busts" anyway. And here's hoping Darnold gets to make some noise in the playoffs, and gets a fat contract with whatever team he lands with next year. He's clearly good enough to start, provided he's got some help with receivers, a running game, good offensive line, and/or defense. But every qb needs at least some of those things to excel.

It all starts with the Offensive line. From the Redskins Hogs to today’s Lions O-Lion. It starts there. They can push the D on runs , and, hold the line in the air game.

The true fact is that this is not the best Jared Goff has played in his career. In 2018 he was lights out, with an offense that scored 30+ points in almost every game. He was throwing down the field on ropes to his receivers game after game, but now is playing more reserved and taking what the other team is giving him and being good at protecting the ball. I don't think that Jamo has the personality traits to be the deep ball receiver Goff needs to combine the two playing styles to really dominate teams.

Since I'm reasonably-confident Johnson's gone after this season, I can only hope he somehow gets fired as head coach from somewhere, then comes back to Detroit as permanent OC. Which is sad, sure, but he's a hyper-elite OC, so like...I wanna keep him ._.

Man, I hope Ben Johnson goes to the Bears... But there are so many teams he could go to: Bengals, Eagles, Jags & more
@BiggieTrismegistus
@BiggieTrismegistus 19 күн бұрын
I think Johnson is going to be very selective with where he goes. The Bears having Caleb Williams for him to mold makes the job somewhat attractive but the team's front office is very mediocre and has been for a looooong time. Of the teams you mentioned I think he'd find the Eagles position most intriguing. Jaylen Hurts is a talented young QB Johnson can coach up and Howie Roseman is a very good GM. But who knows? Even if the Lions win the Super Bowl this year he might run it back just because he's got such a good thing going. It's not just Goff; it seems like every player in that offense is absolutely perfect for what he wants to do. Maybe he wants to ride this wave for awhile.

10 years from now it'll be so obvious to the world that the Lions flat-out won this trade, along with "Stafford finally winning a ring" being LA being gifted a ring with the most overrated starting QB of all time, legitimately gives Jay Cutler a run for his money in terms of worst multi-year starting QB in NFC North history.

I know this is a joke but in all seriousness he very easily could have left last year. Same with Aaron. But he came out and said there’s unfinished business and he couldn’t sleep after the nfc championship loss. Also heard him say he’s been with this team and helped build it up from a few years ago when we were still bottom of the barrel and didn’t seem like he really wanted to go do that for another team since anyone hiring a new coach is usually a bad team. Not very many good teams firing their coach lol so I don’t see him leaving unless we win the Super Bowl or if it still doesn’t happen in a few years maybe he’s done and looking to move into a bigger role. I just find it hilarious that bears fans think eberflus is going to get fired mid season and Ben is going to take over 😂

I know a lot of teams believe that for Goof the be effective he needs time in the pocket and everything has to be perfect for him. The lions coaching staff but in the case the Offensive Coordinator is a thinking strategic person and a student of the game and puts an exceptional amount of time into it. Not everyone is as strategic and thinking and strives for perfection as he and the other coaches do and that is what makes this team dangerous. They will fix their issues.

It's certainly a possibility but far from inevitable. The Super Bowl is obviously always compelling but Chiefs/Lions would be especially so. A team going for the first 3-peat against a team trying to end decades of futility? That would be awesome.

Source of the numbers? He's barely throwing an incompletion and not turning the ball over. Logic dictates he's been pretty good against any scenario.

@@christopherauger4258 people will literally do anything to give Goff his flowers. Dude throws a perfect game this year and it barely gets any media attention. He’s broken multiple QB records and literally has the highest completion percentage out of all the quarterbacks. More TDs than incompletions over a multiple game stretch. And then these people will say “well he has a good team” as if any of the other MVP candidates like Lamar and Josh just don’t have a team and are doing it on their own. It’s hilarious. Oh well. People can keep hating. Lions love being the underdogs and play with a chip on their shoulder. Other teams will pay the price
