Class of 2024 where you at?! Also sidenote to prospectives with low gpa's: Even if you don't think your grades are good enough you should definitely apply. I got a D in my sophomore year math class and a C in my junior year french class and I still got in. Not to be arrogant but yeah, my EC's and essays were pretty good in my opinion. But more so than that I think Tulane realized that it was literally the only school I wanted to attend and I showed them that. I know everyone talks about demonstrated interest to get into this school but that's because it's VERY VERY TRUE. Prove to them that you need to be there and that they need you there and I'm sure it will GREATLY help your chances :) I'll respond to any questions

Also, if you're worried about one particular grade, there's an option to explain why you might have not done so well in that course, for me I took 2 years of Spanish even though I was waived from that requirement due to my learning disability so even tho the grade from my second year of Spanish wasn't up to the standards of typical Tulane grades I was able to explain why

Do you think Tulane values well rounded student more than other top schools? I’ve heard many top schools specifically ivys don’t like well rounded students. I have strong academics and statistics and a variety of extracurriculars so I am worried about being too well rounded and not having a “spike” that many people talk about lol.
@AlexSuh4 жыл бұрын
I gotta say that, YES, Tuane values well-rounded students. There's no such thing as "too well-rounded." I feel that Tulane looks at what you bring to the table and determines whether or not you'd be a good fit here. With that being said, the academic standard for applicants is increasing, so don't let ECs get in the way of academics and test scores!

Is the campus safe overall even though it’s a big city?
@josephbellott33714 жыл бұрын
yes, it's very safe. Their are passionate police patrolling all around (along the perimeter and as far as 2 to 3 blocks away from the campus) and within the campus. The campus is bordered at its front by St. Charles avenue, the most prestigious road in the city, and its back is bordered by the sport stadiums, then Claiborne avenue . The sides are bordered on one side by Loyola University which is continuous with Calhoun street, and its other side is bordered by Broadway street, which is basically nothing but Tulane students as residents. It's like the Fort Knox of the city. You would have to venture a good mile to be exposed to any suspicious people/places

i'm scared because I really like Tulane but I didn't discover the school until after I'd applied to my restrictive early action school and now I feel like i'm screwed if I apply regular decision
@AlexSuh4 жыл бұрын
IMPORTANT: I thought the same thing, but in fine print on many restrictive early action schools (i.e. Stanford) have exceptions: "It is Stanford policy that you may simultaneously apply to Stanford with a decision plan of Restrictive Early Action and to the following: any college/university with an early deadline for a scholarship or special academic program, as long as: 1. the decision is non-binding; and 2. in order to be considered for the scholarship or program, the student must apply in the early round or by an early deadline." Therefore, if you apply to Tulane's scholarships after applying early action, then you are OKAY. Get your early action application soon as well as the scholarship apps by December 15th! Hope that makes sense - I applied restrictive early action to another school then went through this route four years ago... then I got a full scholarship to Tulane!

I was planning to do some more volunteering and ECs this summer but that got halted because of Covid. I really want to go but I’m not sure if I can show my potential at early admissions. Thanks!
@nicolaanderson47544 жыл бұрын
I’ll be attending tulane next year and I have no inside advice but I kind of doubt that they will. I think that they’re trying to lower their acceptance rate by accepting more students ED - alex didn’t mention this but the EA acceptance rate was also only like 6% this year - so I doubt that they’d sacrifice that if they still have enough interested students applying early. Just my opinion though! Good luck :)
@AlexSuh4 жыл бұрын
Apply eary action for sure - during the process, explain in a personal statement your stituation - I'm sure that many others could relate. PRO TIP: I suggest not writing your main personal statement about COVID-19. Jeff Schiffman said in his blog that many other seniors will doing the same thing, so you want to stand out by not writing about the same topic.

do you think a 28 ACT and a 4.0 gpa as well as being very involved in community service, such as being in a community service club for 3 years of high school and having over 100 hours of community service is okay? is that competitive or should i boost my ACT score?
@AlexSuh4 жыл бұрын
That's tough to say. Generally, Tulane will put slightly more weight on the ACT since is it is more objective than GPA (high school difficulty varies from city to city). Community Service is always good to have, but be sure to phrase it as less transactional - this means discuss the quality of the service and the impact on your community rather than explicity saying "over 100 hours." Other than that, be sure to show demonstrated interest and apply for the scholarships!

I think it depends on the strengths and weaknesses of the other parts of your application. If you are weaker on the personal essays, then going test optional may be inhibitory. If the rest of your application is strong, then I feel that the test score would be just supplementary.
