Not to criticize or anything, it’s more of an advice. As a truck driver you never know when the road conditions will change, either by a car accident ahead of you or suddenly getting hit with a storm, specially now with winter coming and snow…. Or just something like a mechanical issue that will have you wait for assistance for many hours. You CAN’T allow yourself to always end up in situations in which you are low on fuel…. NEVER. In winter I would say the moment you cross half the tank start looking for a place to fill up, I have seen drivers get stuck on the highway for many hours, even days due to a storm or accident and trust me when I tell you that you are going to want to be able to keep that heat or A/C running. Don’t be so careless with your fuel.

Rafael Good luck on that! For years the clerks at PILOT and the rest of the truck stops have been asking on the intercom "Driver # so & so please move your truck as others are waiting to fuel. And most of them could care less as they don`t more after being asked to move,so the only solution in my view is first to have ALL trcuk stops unite and then charge $20.00 for first offense,$50.00 for second offense, and $100.00 for third offence.Albert Einsteins famous saying was,"WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS OVER AND OVER AND NO CHANGES ARE MADE THIS IS INSANITY" !!

Great video Alex. As a pilot, I’ve always carried more fuel than required, so I’ve never sweated whether we had enough or not. For me, fuel is something you have control of just like choosing an altitude that gives you options when your single engine quits. And, I never assume the gas gauge is accurate.

As cert Diesel Mechanic 40+ years running a Diesel engine very low on fuel is very bad on filters & the engine in general. It pick up all the trash in bottom your fuel tanks & bring it into the whole fuel system. You be surprised what I found in fuel tanks. Cotton Rags is 1. Rats, paper towels, tools. Ect.

Only thing is with a car you can’t go anymore once it says 0. On a diesel it can say 0 mile range and it won’t stall. It’ll run the fuel out of the rails for probably another 20-30 miles which is bad to do.

Hi Alex. Always carry one or two, five gallon metal safety cans full of treated fuel. 10 gallons should get you 60 to 80 miles or more, depending on weight. That should save you in most cases, just make sure to dump it in before you run out!!! And refill the cans immediately when you stop for fuel! Good luck. Jpol.

They're a relaxed company to work for. I honestly haven't met anyone that's rude at this company. In dispatch or the higher ups. I'm here mainly because they let me drive how I want to drive. I tell them I like to drive 1am-1pm and they say okay and book loads around those times. A couple times I drove like 300 miles in 1 day and shutdown because it was already 1pm. I sent in a form updating my eta to Deliver and they responded with "10-4". The per diem pay, equipment and the openness between upper management and the drivers is also what keeps me here. During orientation you'll get the emails of the executives so you can discuss any problem or way you think the company can improve (AND THEY ACTUALLY RESPOND). We hold zoom meetings every 2 wks where we talk about what's going on in Variant with the executives on. I don't see many giant companies doing this

You shouldn't be too bothered about fuel when the warning light turns on as it always comes on way before you really need to fill up, which I know all cars have and am 99% sure trucks also have it. My car can take me another 35 miles before I need to fill up when the fuel warning light comes on. One feature I love about my car is that while the low fuel light is on the fuel gauge flashes faster and faster as it gets lower.

Hi Alex love your post. I'm not sure where you live but if you stay close to Texas Dallas you sure look at the company I work for (poly trucking) Grand prairie TX .70 a mile we are manufactured of trash bags so you leave our facility with our product and wherever they sent you you come back with a back haul usually back to Dallas if you check the reviews there was a moment there when we have a bad batch of trucks and they were breaking down a lot but we got new trucks now check it out see if it's for you. If you have any questions contact me
