To clarify - we are not leaving New Zealand right now due to changes at the border. We were packed and ready to go but the border status changed due to the new variant and our plans have been put on hold. It’s been hectic. Luckily my family members health has stabilized for the time being. We will probably go over for a while in a few months. Lots of feelings right now. Thank you all for your kindness and support. It’s been a crazy year, with so many ups and downs but throughout it all you’ve been here. So I want to say a heartfelt thank you. Sending you all good vibes and lots of love. See you in 2022.

When we made the decision to move to New Zealand, we realised that at times loved ones will become ill and die. We reached the conclusion that we were only ever a flight away. Inevitably we will miss events, but with enough will we could still be there for most of the critical moments. That was pre-covid, and it's a lot harder now. But we can only do what we can do, and we should not feel ashamed about what we can't do.

Covid, cancer, earthquakes, life in general has taught me that control is a mirage. You are right - connections with loved ones is meaningful and ultimately most important. Even before Covid, there was no guarantee of physically being with far away loved ones when they need you. Just know they will feel your support and whatever happens next, that love and connection will remain strong. I also hope the commitment to producing content doesn’t become too much. Take more time if that’s what you need.

The ups and downs of living across countries.... The heart strings get pulled, and pulled hard in times like these. I feel for you both. We all want to be near the ones we love in sad times. My mum was a wise woman. She taught me to accept that, when you can't be there, you just can't be there, and that's all there is to it You're a wise man Alex, you speak wise words in every vlog. You know that love is the greatest power there is, and that power is energy. Energy that can be directed to be with whomever needs it. You don't need to be present to send your love. Yes being present helps US feel better, but the most important person is the one in need. Send your love, the love of compassion, the love of healing, the love of pure unconditional love. Love is all things. It can be everywhere and anywhere. Direct your love to your family member and rest assured in the knowledge that.... It Is Done. Have a great rest and time with the family you can be with. 💖🎶

Heartfelt sympathies, Alex. I was in a somewhat similar situation a few years back, though it sadly didn‘t „end“ on a (at least comparatively) positive note as yours. I was on vacation in the US, staying with friends when my father passed away (after long illness). I had contemplated returning home early after his passing, but after talking extensively with my mother, as well as the friends I was staying with, we decided that it would be best for me to finish my vacation as planned. To this day I feel that it was the right decision, as it allowed me to keep my father in my memories like he was when I went on vacation, not how he was after his passing. My friends were also invaluable during that time. I hope you and Carrie can relax a little in the upcoming weeks over the new year, and I wish your family member a swift and steady recovery!

Feeling for you and your whaanau. In 2002 I had just been moved to Melbourne for a project by my company and four weeks later my beautiful papa was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was a scary and incredibly distressful time. My company were fantastic, they sent me home for a time until we understood more about what we were facing. Fast forward to this year and the other day we celebrated his 87th birthday. A poignant time for him/ us as one of many firsts without my beautiful mum by his side who we lost in June. When we love so greatly we equally feel the pain of suffering loss or grief for those we love. It is a price I willingly pay. Wishing you and Carrie every strength and blessing for what the New Year brings 🙏🏽💕

I’m loving the real, heartfelt video. I have seen your struggles this year and I’m sorry another hurdle has come your way in this journey. Life is not easy. It hurts to know those you love are suffering, however that Pain is a reflection on how much love you have for that person and aren’t we lucky to have that love in our lives. I have also had a pretty shitty year too, I’m struggling with this negative energy that has consumed most of us around the world, it’s been hard to stay grounded and not be consumed by the anger and hate that is out there, I have found myself being sucked into that negative vibration and becoming frustrated and annoyed myself, which is someone I do not want to be. It’s time to change my mindset and not let it consume me. Videos like yours today helped me to understand that everyone has their struggles and it’s a matter of working through them the best we can, that we are all in this together, we need to raise the vibration and support one another. I lost my beautiful dad to cancer six months ago, my health has not been great and I have three of my oldest and best friends all in a final battle with terminal cancer it’s been rough and emotionally exhausting. You said to look back on the year and find things to be grateful for, you are so right. Instead of looking back on this year with somber thoughts, it is more healthy for me to be grateful for the fact I was able to be there supporting my dad in his last days which was a special time time some do not get to say goodbyes, that I have been able to spend time with my friends, that I have had the opportunity to tell them “I love you “ and let them know just how much they have influenced me over the years, to reflect on the wonderful and fun memories we have shared. Due to facing so much loss, I have been able to see how much richness I have gained in my life because of these people. I have wonderful memories to treasure. So it is not a loss, just a time to say goodbye until we are reunited once again. Everyday that I am alive is one one day that I am closer to seeing them again. Appreciation for life and gratitude for the blessings in my life is the mindset I will go out on at the end of 2021, I don’t think the rocky road is over for any of us yet and to be able to get trough, we must be strong, remain focused, manifest positive outcomes, stay grounded and come from A place of gratitude 🙏 I truly pray for you and Carrie your family member and your extended family, it’s hard being so far away from our loved ones. My aunt, cousins and their children, who I lived with as a child , who I love like a mum and sisters all live in California too, I miss them terribly and I get anxious that there is so much distance that separates us, so I can understand how feelings of sadness and frustration at not be there right now. Thinking of you. Enjoy the summer, get in that water and let it heal you. Soak up the beauty of nature here in New Zealand I think the break will be good for you. All the very best for 2022! I do understand how awful it is for you Alex and Carrie. We went through a bad time with a brother dying in the UK. I'm in NZ, one of his sons is in Barbados, and the other son is local to where my brother lived. It was the start of the first bad outbreak in the UK and nobody was able to see my brother for months. He did not have Covid, he had cancer but covid changed everything. Both of my nephews reached out to me with helplessness, shock and disbelief. Hang in there, you will get heaps of support and I think the most important thing is to look after yourselves. You can't change anything else. Don't be afraid to embrace the sadness and let yourself have those feelings. You'll be wiser and stronger and you will get through this. I will be thinking of you both along the way.

Sending love and light to you all, life has many up and downs and your story and also videos between yourself and Carrie are so uplifting, I live in Scotland and it’s been a challenging year, I think being kind and open is everything, we are all humans and all have our struggles but that is what makes the up’s so great. You both should be so proud, you have moved half way across the world and are starting a new adventure, but home is also where the heart is. Family is everything. Safe travels and all the very best leading up to Hogmanay, peace and love Xxx

So sorry to hear that your family are facing a challenging situation. I hope you enjoy the rest time that you have coming up over Christmas and New Year. Perhaps your family member will take some positivity/ good vibes from some of the things you can share from New Zealand by remaining there, like the nature and animals, the beautiful scenery, the calmer pace of life, just like the rest of your audience do. Keeping everything crossed for a positive outcome xx

All of our love and good wishes to you and your family member who is ill. It is soooo very hard being far away and feeling powerless but your family is right in that you should stay put for now. You are ready to go at a moments notice and they know you are there for them. Kia kaha x

So sorry you are going trough a difficult time. I can relate to your story as I went trough a similar situation last year and this year as well. I am a Romanian National living in the UK . This year actually was worse because i got very ill and I had thoracic surgery . One day before my surgery unfortunately my father passed away. Couldn’t even go to Romania because I had to recuperate from surgery. One lesson I learned is that life is short and we should spend it with our loved ones. Appreciate everything you have and be grateful.Stay strong Alex! Positive energy floating your way.

So sorry your family member is ill and that covid once again has changed our lives. It sounds like you have wonderful family surrounding your loved one so take solace in that. Thank goodness we have ways to connect and see each other through technology so take advantage of that. You can be part of the healing process even though your not physically in California. Having lost 3 family members these past 3 months, I understand worry and pain. Have faith that things will improve for your loved one and the borders open again soon. Many prayers coming your way.

I have only just starting watching some of the awesome videos you and Carrie have been making. You are awesome people who share the best of yourselves. Life is always going to throw you curve balls and often it is not till years later that it make sense. Get to your family and trust that you will return. Take a little bit of Kiwi love with you there if you do go and don't feel guilt if you need to stay, You must feel so torn between staying and going. Kia Kaha

Sending you and Carrie strength and a cool head, definitely not easy to make the decisions you have today, especially one around the condition of a loved one and the distance you are from them. May the winds of fortune blow kindly on your family and that things improve for the coming days and months, take it easy and hope to see you guys on the old Youtuba-ma-tron again soon. 😊

Sorry to hear about your family member’s health problems. Take care of yourself and stay positive. It sounds like a vacation and a change of scenery would be a smart idea so you’re safe, healthy, and prepared to move forward however you need to. Thanks for the update.

Sending you both and especially your family member a lot of love, strength and prayers. Glad to read in the comments that meanwhile the health situation stabilized. Lovely and inspiring vlog segment. Enjoying the holidays with my grandparents in south Italy and really enjoying the time with them and seeing them again. Love you Alex. You’re a real inspiration and great human. Apart from the stress and hectic times I wish you happy holidays as well and a happy new year.

Wishing you all the best for the New Year! Praying for your family. We are the couple who spent 18 months in New Zealand from February 2020 through August of 2021. We are adjusting to life back here in Berkeley. Best wishes!

Understand how you feel. In November last year, my mum was sick and was about to go home but was not able to come back from Malaysia because of the lockdown there. So we decided to stay and on 30 November 2020, she pass away. Sad but we, however, cannot do much then pray and remember our love for her

Hi Alex, I am so sorry you and Carrie are going through this. My mother passed away in Canada in August (the same day NZ went into lockdown) and I was in the same predicament. Do I go back to Canada without knowing when I will be able to re-enter NZ. It's a heartbreaking decision. I decided to stay in NZ and almost five months later I am still trying to emotionally deal with not being there for my family. The only piece of advice I have for you is to be kind to yourself. There is a pandemic and everything is out of our control. Your family and friends love you and will understand. Sending you and Carrie light and love at this challenging time.
