Alfa Romeo Giulia QV "CHECK ENGINE" Service Electronic Throttle Fault Fix in Seconds. So today this happened as I fired up the car to head out to lunch and decided to shoot a real time video to show you guys how simple this is to fix and get back on the road FAULT free. Stop wasting your time calling useless Roadside and the local dealers that will do nothing but stress you out, fix it yourself! This works on all 2017-2024 Giulia QV and Stelvio QV models including Ti 2.0. This problem is most common on the 2.9 Bi Turbo QV models for some reason that Cylinders 3 and 5 will misfire throwing the car into a LIMP mode. It seems sometimes when I hit the START button either too fast or not pressing it hard enough this happens several time per year and i feel it is an electrical CAN BUS delay that trips the faults. No worries because I always keep my simple AUTEL OBD Scanner in all my cars just for piece of mind. Order a scanner today and never be left on the side of the road with silly faults.

Exactly by the time the laptop and multiscan boots up it’s easier to just use this Autel i keep one in all of my cars now even the non Alfas

@@autofanaticcars MES on the laptop sucks imo. I use the mobile app version of MES and the OBDLinkMX+ bluetooth OBDII scanner paired to my phone so that it just stays plugged in all the time lol Doesn't get any faster than that!

I had a giulia qv that I used to track, when I first got the car, I used to get this random service electronic throttle. I used a similar OBD scanner to clear the codes. Dealership used to say that I didn't drive the car hard enough and not to worry about it. It started occurring more often and then local Alfa dealership flew in a technician that basically spent 3 months tracking it down and it was actually related to the headlight connector that finally resolved my specific issue. After that was fixed, I never had another issue with the car. Now I got a stelvio qv and have been hammering it all day, every drive. Got about 4700miles on it. This car has no issues so far. I hope I don't have to start driving with a OBD scanner again. I would suggest that if it happens again that you get it looked at. Alfa Romeo and the dealerships know that this is a tedious process of finding the fault. I think they are hoping customers will take the "Don't baby it" tagline and drive away. I know you have been through issues before with the 2018 and electronic issues but coming from personal experience with 2 QVs, this is a fixable problem and it will be worth your time finding what's wrong while under the factory warranty. I would accept this issue from the early cars but this car has been out for 8 years now, and these faults should have been fixed.

Im terrified to let an inexperienced tech at any Alfa dealer touch my car thats how my 18 issues spiraled out of control almost killing me 100 times with the car shutting off at speed. Keeping a $20 scanner as a roadside safety measure is easier for me now. I lost all confidence in the dealership support in my area

​@@autofanaticcars I understand man. I know a guy locally who can helps me here in Dallas. He worked for the local Alfa dealership here. He owns a Giulia as well. I only allowed him to work on my Giulia as the other tech installed the fuel pump incorrectly. He now moved on to concierge work for Alfa Romeo. I'm sure there are some good local Alfa mechanics who know their stuff near you that may have the love for the brand as well.

That's funny, they told me the same thing. I took care of the car but certainly put it through it's paces. It's just their easy first pass. The new "did you try a restart?" when you contact IT helpdesk.

Bro this couldn’t have come at a better time!! My 2018 Ti Sport just got a brand new battery (to solve the problem) and it still randomly throws ETC error and check engine while I’m applying throttle aggressively and then goes away by itself same day???lol I don’t want to take it to the mechanic over and over if it’s going to keep doing this and nobody knows why… So would getting this scanner be able to clear it so that I can do it myself and move on with my life when it happens? I love this car so much, I wouldn’t mind doing this once a week or so if it meant it would give me more peace of mind

Check all your battery connections then scan car it should pull up codes, erase and see how she behaves

Get an IdealRace tune from Eric which gives you better HP better engineering period! Seriously drive around with a scanner is the solution! NO after the tune the QV drove amazingly and no BS code crap

Well this is depressing lol. I'd hoped the false misfire codes were solved by now. My 2017 does the same from time to time. MY guess is it has more to do with driving on the streets in dynamic or race modes without going "fast and hard" enough to spend all the fuel in the cylinders. Then when you shut the car off there's excess/unburnt fuel that causes a misfire on the next start up. I say this because if I rev the hell out of the engine before shutting down, I seem to never have the issue. Oh well, as far as ODBII readers/scanners, I also like the OBDLinkMX+ Bluetooth scanner paired to my phone. This way I just leave it plugged in all the time lol! It also works well when I do stuff with MES and the associated cables, like proxy alignments, resetting my service intervals after oil changes, etc. Even works with the SGW bypass module on later-model 2018s and up.

I just disconnected the battery and it went away.. Thats probably a temp fix... But I don't have a diagnostic reader. Should I take it to the dealer for them to reset? It's obviously gonna come back again right??

I have the same problem on my Stelvio QV during cold weathers. It turns out it is because of the battery. When it is not getting enough voltage during cold start, you will get this error. I recommend changing or recharging the battery. I replaced the battery and now I am not getting this issue during winter.

This didn't work for me . Still have the check engine throttle. Update it works for telling you wants wrong with the car but codes can't be erased until you fix the issue

these intermittent soft codes clear with the Autel no issue if the car has an actual ground loop faul or hardware failure this wont help much as the code will come back immediately.

Wow bro, I was supposed to email you but I never got to do it only if you know how about I only have 43K on my Stelvio TI. The car has been nothing but well-maintained. They supposedly fix the issues with the light. I had to call a Lemonlaw Lawyerand now my engine is completely blown. I’m out of warranty telling me it cost $20,000.

Should work on all models. If the fault is triggered by something serious like bad hardware or something broken it will trigger fault continuously but most of the time its a stupid glitch

Get a giulia QV you won’t regret it. I bought mine used. Had it a year no issues yet besides this misfire code haha.

Sounds like they overfilled engine oil I would take it back ASAP it’s not good to overfill these engines with such tight tolerances

Mine has been at dealer since December, first it was splitter actuators, then collision avoidance sensor, then calibrations, now we are onto the TCM….it is never ending. Have you had any issues like this? Mine is an 18, I’m really hoping the issues start to slow down soon. I’ve only driven it 2,000 miles and have owned it over 7 months now

My 18 had very bad electrical problems it would not start or car would shut off on highway. This eventually forced me to trade it on the M3 then I decided to get a 23 QV months back as the BMW bored me

wow the harness on my 18 was hacked by these loser techs at the dealer who pulled and broke wires and they tried to hide it with electrical tape without repairing it and this was the main cause of the battery draining, car shutting off hitting any bumps and constant fault codes. they refused to do the proper repairs so I was forced to trade it and grab the M3 when that happened. Hope they know what they are doing on your car.

@@autofanaticcarsyep that’s what the current dealer did….they have hacked into several parts of it and covered it in electrical tape lol. Only way to properly repair it is an entire harness, I’m having my car shipped from the dealer it is at now to that dealer and it’ll all be filed under warranty which is awesome! I’ll have to let you know the results, fingers crossed. Your 18 is what convinced me to buy one! They’re amazing cars just wish the electronics were better and the dealer network

@@autofanaticcars same here! It’s still there now, they’ve been re-wiring rather than replacing the wiring….found 8 different spots where wires were chafed and having communication errors. At least for now it seems a little promising we are on the right target

What year is your car? The reason you get that OBD to clear the code is i'm guessing your MY is 17-19...! MY20 and up has the SGW bypass and won't let you clear the codes. We'd waste money on that OBD by finding that out the hard way. Might want to make that clear in the description.

It must be the battery, I had this issue two months ago and another episode, where only the errors showed up on the screen, but car run great. But my battery is close to 4 years old. I think it's the battery. These cars have a smart charging system, and the system does not fully charges the battery, specially if you drive only short trips. A good idea would be, to charge up the battery once every month. Another thing could be on the 2.0 engine is the worn accessory belt. There are some notches, (to show the belt's life) and if it is close to the left mark, it needs to be changed.

I had recently replaced my battery with a new Interstate but i don’t drive my QV that much really as i use the Stelvio for work. These cars are temperamental so who knows what and why this happens but it’s a simple fix which is why i posted this video

@@autofanaticcars I also have a somewhat new battery.. What has been helping is turning off the whole radio system before I shut down my car.. Then turn it back on when I turn on the car... Maybe that system consumes battery when the car is off so good practice is to turn it off.. See if it helps in any way! Thank you for the video

Is it really as simple as deleting the code? This just happened to be today while I was driving. I punched it just a bit in D mode, had slight wheel spin and the Electronic Throttle Control light came on and switched me straight to N mode.

no the codes happen sporadic you do not need to do this every time you start the car unless there is a serious electrical issue causing it

The OBD tool you use worked. However the code I got was: P0248 Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid B Range/Performance. Not sure what the heck that means.
