Hello Rick. I have a 166 3.2 V6, i have to replace the clutch and probably the flywheel in a near future, do i have to remove the subframe as you did on your GTV? I do have troubles finding a flywheel here in France so if you have any suggestions I'm ready to search in the UK if you have any advices. Thank's a lot. Greetings

Rick, one job i never fancied at all. Does your GTV have a dual mass flywheel? Will you be swapping it out for a GTA flywheel/clutch? Thanks Steve
@_RicksGarage4 жыл бұрын
porsche356a Hi. If my flywheel is out of tolerance then yes, but if not then no, I’ll be sticking with the dual mass. Many people may think I’m mad for not swapping for a single mass anyway but there are a couple of potential drawbacks which I will cover in my upcoming videos.

Hey Rick, thank you for your great channel, it will help me a lot for my Spider 916 3.0 maintenance. I have to replace the starter on my V6 12v, which parts would you advise me to remove first in order to access the starter ? Front pipes and subframe I guess, but also maybe the right driveshaft and the rear exhaust manifold ? Thanks a lot for your feedback.

Personally I just use a cheap Autel code reader which has worked well for me over the years but it does have its limitations. If you’re looking for some special in-depth software then your best bet is to ask the question on some of the owners clubs who could offer some advice on this. I too need to upgrade mine

Hi Rick, I’m trying to remove the bell housing from a 3.2 v6 Alfa Romeo, all the bolts appear to be undone it pulls away all the way round about 2cm but won’t pull off ??? Are you able to offer any advice on how to get it off completely? Thanks Tom
@_RicksGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thomas Millward did you remove the Allen bolt at the rear of the engine/bell housing? Also the flywheel protection plate?
@thomasmillward45684 жыл бұрын

Hi mate im trying to remove the gearbox too but the subframe is on the. How can i remove the subframe? Need help Thanks mate
@_RicksGarage2 жыл бұрын
You need to remove the downpipes, drop the exhaust tunnel/heat shielding, unbolt bottom lower engine mount, unbolt track rod ends from the hub carriers, unbolt steering rack bolts (may be seized), unbolt and lower subframe. Check out my Alfa restoration playlist and you will find a detailed video on removing the front subframe. There is a video specifically for removing the subframe and another one for removing the alternator which also covers subframe removal

Do you reckon i can remove the gearbox without removing the subframe
@markabero54432 жыл бұрын
Hi really need ur advise mate
@_RicksGarage2 жыл бұрын
@@markabero5443 i have heard that it is possible to move the gearbox back with the subframe in place but I can imagine it isn’t easy and probably quite tricky to line back up when it come to refitting. Definitely a 2 man job I would have thought.

Is the removal of the 156 selespeed gearbox the same
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yes. I believe the selespeed gearbox is identical to the manual. Only difference is the electronically actuated clutch.
@alfaman41133 жыл бұрын
Rick’s Garage thanks for the reply bro. Just one thing while working on the removal of the gearbox, did you have the cars weight resting on the blocks under the sump?. Love your video man. I have a gtv, ts, 16v. But just bought a real nice clean 156 TI jts selespeed 2005, of eBay, as a project,Real cheap to but needs a new clutch. And another thing the guy I bought it off, his mechanic had told him that the release bearing had worn right through the pressure plate spring fingers. Now how could the mechanic have diagnosed that without taking the gearbox off?
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@alfaman4113 No, the weight of the car is on axel stands. Only the weight of the engine is resting on the wood cribbing. Resting the engine on the cribbing it much safer than resting it on a Jack. Don’t worry about the release bearing and pressure plate. You should get new ones with your new clutch kit.
@alfaman41133 жыл бұрын
Rick’s Garage yes the car came with a new clutch kit. But what I want to know is how the mechanic was able to diagnose the fact that the release bearing had worn right through the pressure plate spring fingers, without taking the gearbox off. How would he have known that.
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@alfaman4113 your guess is as good as mine. Maybe it makes a familiar noise that his mechanic is familiar with through experience but he may just be speculating. I wouldn’t read too much into it. There is no way to tell for sure until you pull the gearbox off.
