As someone who owns 9 SA's...I'd add this to my collection! :) ~Jack, VEG

Nice design, simple and effective! However I think you missed the 'Fine' button for the frequency control 😉

Got to love a nice Hameg analogue scope and spec an, they were (and still are) pretty excellent entry level kit, I'd give that bench space in my workshop. Around the time Hameg were bought by R&S there were a lot of 'clones' of these analogue spectrum analysers, I think some went up to 1GHz. maybe higher and some models had tracking generators with a frequency display. They were apparently pretty good and the pics of the internals I saw looked like exact copies, so much so that I wondered if perhaps they were leftover Hameg stock that had been rebadged by the factory when the buyout happened. They're still available on Aliexpress and various other sites, SM5010 is the model of one I just found.

AM modulation and FM modulation look different on more advanced analyzers. 50Hz AM on a 100MHz carrier should give a 100MHz carrier, a 100.000.050 component and a 99.999.950 component. To see that properly you need a Resolution Band With (RBW) of a few Hertz. That of coarse slows down the scan sweep, since such small IF filters need time to filter out these low frequency deviations. So the high scan sweeps looks amazing, but it has nothing to do anymore with spectrum analysis.

How did you add the xy-plot of your logo to the SA? Does this apparatus also work as a scope with xy-plot?

I think that is explained at 17:45

I had hoped to see a video of how you connected your logo generator to the Hameg. I have a Hameg HM5011 (1GHz with tracking gen) and it seems to work fine except there is no signal displayed. It is just a dead flat line across the bottom of the crt. I was thinking that cycling the connectors might fix the issue as they can sometimes make bad connection on older electronics - but I just cant figure out how those connectors work! Never seen anything like those. Afraid to pull too hard - and even if I did, how would I put them back together?

i just hooked my signal into the analog X Y input to the display board

@@TeardownOZ2CPU The problem is I dont know how the white connectors work. I almost pulled one of them off the pcb of the tuner trying to remove the flat cable from it. REALLY doubt I could get it back together had I pulled it all the way off. Never seen anything like those. Plastic clip on top just reveals tightly fitting contacts inside. Same as on your video - how did you get the cable out of those connectors?

PUSH on the white plastic top, down towards the pcb, and at the same time pull gentle in the wires :-)

@@TeardownOZ2CPU Oh! Thats simple enough - never thought to try that LOL! Thanks!

Nice video. I just acquired a HM5006 and yours seems to be the same vintage. Can you tell me what the jacks under the screen are for? (Probe Power and Phone) The only manuals I can find are slightly different, with just x and y adjustments under the screen. I'm very curious. Thanks.

headphones so you can listen on the audio demodulate probe power is for active preamplifiers and such

500 mili-Hertz or 500Mega-Hertz? It rea;;y matters!
