The album includes French music for double bass and piano from Alfred Desenclos, Gabriel Fauré, César Franck and Maurice Ravel.
„Aria et Rondo" by Desenclos is originally written for double bass and piano. The other works are transcriptions of famous French chamber music pieces: Faurés „Elégie" and „Après un rêve", Ravels „Pièce en forme d’Habanera" and “Pavane pour une infante defunte" as well as Francks wonderful Violin Sonata - an extraordinary project to perform on double bass.

Fortunately, I had the opportunity to hear them live in concert with this masterpiece and another one, César Franck’s Sonata in A major. I have to admit, that the sound they both developed and their extremely musical expressiveness just blew me away and touched me so deeply, so that I could hardly hold back my tears. That’s what makes life worth living, to glance behind the curtain from time to time, the world behind or beyond the world.

A master at work. So much soul and passion in playing the double bass… there might be only few bass players who are able to bring together highest technique and musicality, as Michael Rieber does.
