The music leading up to the grotto and the first vision is among the most sublime ever written by anyone for any movie. In my estimation, there is everyone else, and then there is Alfred Newman.

One of the finest movies to ever come out of Hollywood. I have seen it many times and I never tire of it.

Thank you Robert. This is a rare treat ... I purchased a import bootleg of this in Toronto in the 1970s. That was the only way you could access most of this glorious score. These are indeed glorious days for Golden Age fans -- a rare breed, unfortunately.

THANK YOU! I have been looking far and wide for a proper upload of this particular commercial re-recording. Now that the actual film soundtrack has been released and uploaded, nobody is interested in hearing this contemporary concert suite Newman recorded. Personally, while the soundtrack recording may have better fidelity and surprise stereophonic moments (all gloriously recorded on the Fox scoring stage), for my taste this particular re-recording, with its slightly scaled-down orchestra and faster pace, "plays" better as a stand-alone listening experience. I especially like the two-part version of "The Miracle."

Robert: Thanks so very much for posting this. I knew the score from the film, then from an LP from the 80s (?) put out on the Varese label, which, according to the album notes, was re-mastered from the Decca LP. It's wonderful to hear this as it was originally recorded onto 78s for home listening. Interesting, too, that this album is known as "Themes from the original score," and not an "Original soundtrack album," per se. (Truth be told, I appreciate the artwork you've included n your upload just as much as do the music itself.) I got a grin when, deciphering some the program notes, I read that Newman was a two-time Academy Award winner (I'm guessing, at that point, they were referring to "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "Tin Pan Alley") --- and would win a third for "The Song of Bernadette.") Again, my thanks for all your effort!
