You should cover King Oswald of Northumbria & Oswin. I mean it ties into Northumbria being a combination of two kingdoms & Oswalds exile leading him to adopt insular Christianity.

Audio is way too low even at max volume, just compare it with other channels and you'll notice it.

Good series Very few videos cover the other people during that time. Most all videos stick with Alfred one brother and his dad very little mention about anyone else.

People often forget that Alfred wasn't even meant to be king, he only ruled because all his other brothers died

Under normal circumstances, Alfred as a fifth son would never have become king. But in the nineth century, an Anglo-Saxon king had just a short living expectancy before he was killed in a battle by the Danes. So his elder brothers died soon after coronation.

It was 1 king named Bagsecg that were killed in Ashdown not 5 kings, however there where 5 jarls: Siggtrygg (Sidrac) the elder, Siggtrygg the younger, Harald (Harold), Hrane (Frene), Åsbjørn (Osbern).

Marijn Taal there’s a lecture by professor Michael Drout called “the Anglo Saxon world” it’s on Audible. I’ve never encountered a more detailed and/or passionate insight on the subject

Hilbert, why do you use the original Anglo-Saxon names for his whole family, but not once do you mention the ancient form of his name Aelfraed, only the modern form?

The Angles that stayed in Jutland became Danes, the Angles that stayed in Germany become Saxons, and the Angles that stayed in the Netherlands became Frisians.

Almost the entire tribe of the Angles emigrated to England in the fifth century. What the Angles who had stayed in Angeln in Germany did is unknown.

My friend you map at 17:18 is all wrong. Reading is in Wessex, south of the river at the mouth of the Kennet. And Englefield is an estate west of Reading in the north Wessex downs

This channel is the only one I have the issue with on my subs list. My speakers/volume are completely fine. I thought constructive criticism was an alright way to express feedback. But if it isn't welcome, That's fine. I'll unsub.

@@spektra1988 Just use some earphones/headphones that sounds a lot harder. S Stevens is probably right about the speakers btw, cause i can hear him clearly with only 1/3 of the volume.

@@Weda01 Everyone's speakers are different, my guess is you have some massive speakers. I'm sure you will reply, you don't. but that's an easy fireback that you can't prove. He just needs to balance the audio on his video.

@@spektra1988 I dont really have massive speakers. I was watching this video via my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) and the speakers used for this phone are not known for being that good to my knowledge. So if you cant hear it well using normal computer speakers that is a clear indicator you should probably get new ones :) (or just use ear/headphones)
