Videos of him are just a blink of his career and mostly after he was 33, this guy could score goals with backheel bycicle kicks (!). The thing about Di Stefano is he dominated every situation of the play with coolness, personality and flair. He commanded the team like Beckenbauer, built the play like Xavi, refined the play like Platini, finalized in every way with class or power or quickness like Van Basten, was opportunist like a Gerd Muller or Inzaghi and also defended as a half back. No technical feat was unknown to him and he's probably the man who better understood how football should be played. Only Pelè is above him still to this day

Football has become more about athletics. Nowadays it's about sports and competition. Winning is the most important thing so the emphasis is on Speed, power and fitness. Before the 2010s it was more than just sports. It was the beautiful game and certainly deserving of that title. I'd have the aduacity to say that football before Guardiola revolutionized football was a mix of sports and art. It was just as much about entertainment then it was about winning. And I think that's the only correct approach. Because what players in the past understood that many nowadys don't understand anymore is that they wouldn't have had a career without their fans. So entertaining them was the players way of repaying the fans for their support. Modern players barely interact with their fans anymore and entertaining them is only secondary to them. That's why I don't like the involvement of investors. They truly destroy what football is suppossed to be. Players should get their money from the support of the people watching them.

Pele was playing professionally around the same time Di Stefano was, they're only 14 years apart, it's not like much of the gear used changed that drastically from when one played to the other. FYI, 1958 Pele was in the World Cup already and that means he had been professionally playing for a few. Di Stefano retired in 1966.

The 1950s was the beginning of studded cleats. Adi Dassler (father of Adidas) introduced the first screw in studded cleats in 1954 (so you could adjust for conditions). It provided such a tangible benefit to play that the W German team dominated the competition. Hungary was the strong favorites that WC, with legends like Puskas and Kocsis spearheading the line. To understand how dominant they were, they had beaten W Germany 8-3 earlier. Di Stefano was already at Madrid at that time. Significant improvements happened each year, let alone in the 10+ years between Di Stefano and Pele. And the cleats of today are practically magic, comparatively. That's not to say Di Stefano is better than Pele, that's simply pointing out how difficult it is to actually compare two players with that much time separating them.

Buen video. Resultan un tanto sorprendentes algunos comentarios que hablan de defensas lentas, porteros malos, etc. pero luego dicen que Pelé era mejor (habiendo jugado la mitad de su carrera en la misma época). Es muy difícil comparar, pero Di Stefano, en su momento y con toda la distancia que marca el tiempo y la evolución del juego, fue un fenómeno, sin el cual es muy improbable que el real Madrid ganara 5 copas seguidas.

Tienes razon Di Stefano tiene todo el estilo de juego de Zidane, hasta en sus movimientos, es un estilo pausado con fintas, taconsitos, era muy bueno, muchos europeos decian que era mejor que Pele, pero comparandolos Pele era mas completo, mas veloz y directo, ademas que podia burlar a tres o cuatro y meter gol...pero eso de que viste jugar a Di Stefano hace 15 años no te lo creo, tendra mas de 40 años que se retiro, es contemporaneo de Pele.
