How To Install A BMX Gyro! The fastest way on earth!!

I originally discovered this channel because I’m a mechanic and I was watching Phu explain the differences between old and new school bmx bikes. I liked Phu as a teacher and watched more, as I watched more I developed even more respect. Todays thing about triflow, in cable housings, then forcing it down there with air. 👍. The best mechanic in my town does Yamaha outboards and motorcycles , and anything Yamaha. He’s got a bunch of certificates and such, master technician on a bunch of them. He’s Has trained me in many of his methods. Phu and him like to lube cables and pay attention to the details. Phu sanding the brake bushings for smoothness and then lubing it. 👍. Taking care to not put any sharp bends when routing his cables. 👍 What’s really funny is I liked this channel and think Alfredo is a mechanic and filmer, but he’s pro bmx. Fun stuff. I was shocked as I just thought he worked at the shop. Loving bikes and biking in upper Michigan. Love your channel, had fun “ riding” with you in Dubai. Without the internet I woulda never got to go. All them skids and little tricks on the streets of Dubai, you guys had me laughing. All this biking and fun keeps us young. Great channel for learning bike stuff. Tricks and mechanic work.

A few things that I always do when setting up gyros are: 1. Making sure to use the correct amount of spacers on the steer tube. Too much and you'll have less adjustability, too less you'll have less leverage on the lever. 2. I always tune the lower cables first and make sure the gyro sits on the gyro tab without too much tension . After that I tuned the upper cable to the point where it doesn't have any slack while maintaining the gyro position so it doesn't "float" in between gyro tab and the gyro plate. I've been doing this for quite a while and it helps maintaining the longevity of the brake cables.

I watch all your videos about lubing everything ___and was pleased to see this tutorial on installing a gyro. Im voting for the “gyro on old school vid” you mentioned. I ordered an Odyssey gtx-s for my nice clean 86 kuwahara bravo kt. It comes with tabs that Id have to drill and tap. Id rather do a cup mod if possible and avoid drilling my vintage honey. Not much online giving me clues what I can buy/add to make this possible. Ill drill if I have to but wonder if theres a hack to avoid it. Thanks!

When I had a gyro, I had a dragonfly Gemini on the top of the gyro for the lever, and for the bottom I used gear cables with a London mod into a Odyssey evolver break 👍

I like to run the Kink double cable set up on the upper and lower. The cables cost twice as much but seem to last that much longer and great stopping power.

Can you make a video adding a front brake with gyro setup? I used to ride a 97 GT Vertigo, and I just purchased a We The People Reason that I'm customizing with a seat post extender, front brake with gyro kit, and pegs all around.

My upper cable came pre assembled from gt. Is it possible it was made too long. I can’t get enough tension just to hold the break line in the upper gyro. Am I missing something? Do they screw in or should they be held in by tension?

I've ran gyros on all of my bikes since the 80's recently I bought my son and I new bmx bikes and I put gyros on both of them but the problem I ran into on my sons bike was I had to change the forks out in order to get the front brake cable to go through the compression bolt I used a new set of landing gear forks which were nice but pegs won't fit the dropouts they hit the fork tube before seating so I used alot of washers as spacers

Total noob, but tried installing a gyro. Tabs on.. easy. Pulled cap and stem off. Gyro in then gyro plate👍🏼. Went to replace stem but there was like maybe a 1/4” space, cant get the stem down further. That plate is not 1/4”. Stopped the install going to take it to a shop (if I can find one nearby in NY). Is that space normal? Where did I mess up.

The right length upper cable really helps. No shade but I'd have used a shorter upper less slack = more adjustment. A dual pull upper cable makes pull smoother as well , imo the lower doesn't matter. That's what works for me

Yeah, besides sanding the mount one use a dab of blue Loctite just dropped not red Loctite you’re gonna hate life when you use red. Specially, without you knowing them coming loose and then they ripped off. I seen it plenty of times, and skate parks in working at the shop before my motorcycle accident. And I just did a dab blue Loctite gyro tabs and cable guide with blue Loctite. Not rid Loctite. And especially right about sending the brake mounts.

Teflon dry film lube which doesn't attract dirt unlike most lubes out there or graphite can be used too
