Since 2 wks ago - when a friend forwarded a youtube sermon of Rev. Howard-John Wesley, I have listened to him almost on a daily basis. He has a Word in season for me. Ego eimi is a Koine Greek phrase that literally translates to "I am" or "It is I". In the Gospels, Jesus used the phrase to refer to himself as if it were a name, rather than a verb. Some say that Jesus uses the term ego eimi to identify himself as Yahweh, the God who listens to his people and acts to bring about liberation. verb. The term is an emphatic form of the copulative verb eimi, which means "to be", "to exist", "to happen", or "to be present". In the Gospel of John, Jesus says "eimi" 45 times, but only 24 of those are ego eimi. The deliberate addition of the word "ego" ("I") is unnecessary in Greek grammar, which suggests that something special is being said.
