@@Greenemath I don't understand how to set the problem up. How do u know what goes where in the problem and why
@Greenemath4 жыл бұрын
@@jeremyfaulkner5586 If you have an example you are struggling with I could show you, otherwise we can just make a simple one. When you are setting up a proportion, you are basically saying that a/b = c/d, so the units or what you are working with in a and c need to be the same as well as b and d. So for example, let's say you had a school that has 3 teachers for every 50 students and then let's suppose we are asked if there are 400 students, how many teachers are there? So if you set this up as 3/50 = x/400, you see the units in the numerators match 3 is the number of teachers and x is the number of teachers, 50 and 400 match 50 is the number of students and 400 is the number of students. You could also flip this and get the same answer, but you need to flip both. Just make sure what you measure in the numerator of 1 is in the numerator of the other, same goes for the denominator. 50/3 = 400/x Either way the answer for x is 24, so there are 24 teachers when there are 400 students. If you have a particular problem you are stuck on, drop the example and I'm glad to help! :)

May you help me solve this problem: A wall can be built by 6 men working 8 hours per day in 5 days. How many days will it take 4 men to build a wall if they work only 5 hours per day?
@garamjahad89476 жыл бұрын
noura bourhan im not totally sure about this. But this is how I approach the problem. First the equation must be 6/ 8(5) = 4/5(x) Left hand variable says that 6 men will cover 8 hours times the no. of days(which is 5) to finish a wall Then by ratio and proportion, it equals the 4 men working only in 5 hours times the x days to finish a wall. So by cross multiplication, you will get that the x value equals to 5.333 days. That is the number of days that 4 men working only 5 hours a day to finish a wall. I hope that makes sense to you.
@Greenemath4 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to think about this is to start by saying that 6 men working 8 hours per day gives you 48 man hours for each day, then there are 5 of those days or a total of 240 total man hours for the project. Now in your second scenario, you have 4 men working 5 hours per day, so each day they complete 20 man hours (5 * 4) of the job. Now we can divide 240 by 20 to obtain an answer of 12. This means it will take 12 days for 4 men working only 5 hours a day to complete the job.

Jake baked 120 biscuits with 8 scoops of flour. With 10 scoops of flour, how many biscuits can Jake bake?
@Greenemath3 жыл бұрын
Just set up a proportion with what you know in what fraction and what you don't in the other: 120 biscuits / 8 scoops of flour = x biscuits / 10 scoops of flour Now just cross multiply with the numbers to set up an equations: 120 * 10 = 8x 1200 = 8x Divide both sides by 8 to isolate x: 1200/8 = 8x / 8 150 = x This means Jake can make 150 biscuits with 10 scoops of flour.

i need help on how to do the following word problem. for every girl taking classes at a martial art school, there are 3 boys if there are 236 students how many boys are taking the classes
@Greenemath7 жыл бұрын
So for each group of 4 students, we have exactly 1 girl and 3 boys. Ask yourself how many groups of four can be made from 236? The answer is 59 (236/59). So if there are 59 such groups, there will be 1 girl for each group or a total of 59 girls. And for the boys, there are 59 groups with 3 boys in each group, so there will be 59 * 3 or 177 boys in the class.
