X + (X + 5)/3 = 7 let's just multiply EVERYTHING by 3 3X + X + 5 = 21 and now add 3X and X 4X + 5 = 21 and now subtract 5 from both sides 4X = 16 and now divide by 4 X = 4

Prove it if x=4, in 4x+5 = 7(3): 4x + 5 = 7(3) 4(4) + 5 = 7(3) 16 + 5 = 21 21 = 21 Therefore, x=4 is the correct answer!

Why do you people insist on making your bed hard! All you need to do is multiply both sides by 3; 3x + (x + 5) = 21 4x + 5 = 21 4x = 16 x = 4 All that tripe you did is not necessary!
