WOW!! - How do you get so many strats to LESS than 6 inputs!? - Do your algos have more? then you 'freeze' most to static values until you have only a few to optimize or are you developing algos that only have

Nowadays my algos always have 2-4 inputs max. You can use sensitivity analysis to reduce the number, as long as you do it properly. You can have success with 6 or more, but your chances of success go down with more inputs.

Thanks for the tips. What about inputs that are part of the core idea behind the strategy, so they are only optimized for a small sample size during development and kept the same during further optimization?

I don't do that, but if it gives you good real time results over a number of strategies, that is key. Certainly what you are proposing is better than traditional "optimize with all the data" approach.

Do you ever reduce the number of input variables by setting a lot of them as constants? Like you can set ATR at 9, set profits at 6 times ATR and stop at 3 times ATR, etc?

I only do this if I first run a sensitivity analysis of the variable in question.

I do walkforward testing, Andrea does not. Of course, I think my approach is better. I'm sure he thinks his is better! My course includes my personal e-mail support though.
