Wow! Awesome! I used to do Algonquin every other weekend on the bike and camped at all the campsites and have hiked most trails, have seen bears and moose, but my dream was to canoe it's interior, as you both have. Very! nicely done, great skills and great sense of humour. Now I want to do it more than ever. Wow! I've gotta watch them all again.

Really awesome video work. These videos , of which I binge watched over the christmas holday would make anyone want to get out there! Ten years ago I did this exact same trip, even stayed in many of the same campsites. I was so excited and inspired to see my trip retraced by you two that my son and I are making plans to do it again this August. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!

Stellar, stellar stuff!! Canoed and backpacked in Algonquin so many years ago, like 15 I think...loved it!! We head up to the Adirondacks fairly often but really need to make the trip back up to this area. Great, great job filming...think it really gives a great overview to folks who've never been there but want to go...and makes folks like me who have, want to come back! Great job!

Wow I just checked out all 5 of your 7 videos and you guys did so much cooler stuff in one hour than what we did in 4 days LOL. I think we didn't even discover probably 2% of the park. Just went on one little 5 KM trail and then Kayaked all day in the Rock lake. But looking at your camping skills, I realized we didnt actually camped..... :/ we just maybe visited the park probably xD
@ChrisProuse8 жыл бұрын
Cool! You should try camping in the interior with your friends sometime - highly recommend just going one or two lakes into the park for a few days, and renting gear from Algonquin Outfitters (or the Portage Store on Canoe Lake). You can book all the lakes/ gear you need ahead of time, pick up your permit on the way, and you're good to go :)

I applaud your leave nothing behind message. I have been camping in Ontario for almost 50 years now and I follow the same rule, in fact I try to clean up what others leave behind whenever possible. For the past five years I have also stopped using fire pits and only use my small camp stove. I have seen the devastation caused by forrest fires, and I don't want to take any chances with a stray spark or ember.

Great video ... we always appreciate seeing the map(s) used. Might we ask how you chose your map from the collection of maps piled on the floor? Thanks!
@ChrisProuse8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The map featured in the video is an older map of the entire park, and the others are smaller (waterproof) regional maps within the park that show a little more detail to help with navigating. We also recommend "Jeff's Map" of the park, which you can purchase online or download for free onto your iPhone or Android phone, and even works when you're off the grid, with the phone's internal GPS to show where you are on the map :)

Hi Chris, i noticed that u had bacon and burgers (perishable food), i wonder how do you preserve those foods for after a couple of days on the back country?. have u brought a dried ice?
@ChrisProuse8 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio, the veggie burgers are individually sealed, though we usually just have them on the first night. The bacon is the microwaveable ready-crisp stuff that stores well at room temperature... though once it's been opened, we try to keep it in a cool part of the food barrel and then hope for the best :)
@ynot94008 жыл бұрын

Hi Chris, I loved your videos of this trip. I have a couple of questions for you. What are you using to filter your drinking water? Artisan Burger and Hash Browns, where can I buy these?
@ChrisProuse8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Waldo! We use a Katadyn "Hiker Pro" water pump that's great for collecting water on the go, which is totally worth the money and easy to maintain. Haha, the burgers are actually individually pre-packaged veggie burgers made by a company called Yves here in Canada. The hash browns are from the grocery store, and the bacon is the microwavable stuff that can be stored at room temperature before it's opened - we don't have any refrigeration though, so we eat perishables near the beginning and hope for the best once things have been opened :)

Haha, good question - the campsites all have what's called an "Algonquin thunderbox" (there's one at 4:58 in the video on Day 6) about 20-30 meters behind the campsite, over a hole that the park rangers dig, and periodically move every couple of years. Campers bring their own toilet paper and camping soap :)
