I'm from the States but I have been all over Algonquin Park since 1987. I had done a 28 day solo trip around and thru the park and I've also done the entire Petawawa River from the source and have done the lower Petawawa from Travers Lake to McManus Lake 26 times. My favorite lake in the park is Loon Skin Lake. The best place I've ever seen the Aurora was a spectacular display while on Little Misty Lake. Your videos are very nice with a lot of good info and facts and some great photography. Thank you!

Hi Chris! These videos are so beautiful and make me so happy!! I spend all my summers in Algonquin and you guys are taking some of the same route I took a few years ago on a 13 day. In future trips would you consider a gear and food pre-trip video? Gear you see as essential, gear that would be under the luxury category. Food, perishable to freeze dried, snacks and... well you see where I'm going with this. 😁 🇨🇦

On the topic of places I enjoy camping: The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath runs from Washington DC to Cumberland, Maryland. There are campsites every 5-7 miles along the trail, with a few longer exceptions coming out of DC. There is the option of Canoeing, and most of the campsites are free. They are however on a first come first serve basis. You both should check it out, it's a good trip whether canoeing, hiking, or biking.

Great job on the videos. I've been enjoying watching them. Anyway Chris in your video you asked viewers to share their favourite places to go. A place I've fallen in love with is Killarney Provincial Park. My son and I hiked the 78km La Cloche Silhouette Trail this past summer. We set a pretty tough pace for ourselves and hiked it in three days but we had an awesome time doing it.

If you two are ever in PA a nice hike is the NCT through the Alleghaney National Forrest, the bit that goes through little salmon valley is nice. A lot of hills but in the other side of the valley is a very country, very friendly bar not to far called Cougar Bobs, that's a very welcome oasis of wings and beer. You can make that hike as long or as short ya like. It's not utter wilderness like maybe what you guys do but I enjoy it a lot. Usually after the bar we backtrack to camp along one of the creeks which is very scenic and serene. It's one of my favorite hikes here in NWPA. There's also a 38 mile canoe trip that's more floating and beer drinking but it's very fun. We put in at Franklin PA and get out at Emlenton PA. It takes about three days to do depending on how much you want to paddle or how much lounging and beer you drink. There's old railroad tunnels you can stop off and hike through. (It's part of a bike trail) the tunnel is rather significant and unlit but very navigable, there's also a campground you can stop off at that has compost toilets and sometimes cut fire wood. You usually spend an extra day there then paddle down to Emlenton on our last day. There's companies that will Gary up and you can rent the canoe 🛶 and then they're right there when you pull out. It simplifies things. I have always wanted to do this trip in early October when the leaves are changing. If you wanted to stretch this to a week you just put up river farther. Some parts are more scenic then others but the bit from frankilin to Emlenton is my favorite granted there is a huge piece from warren to tionesta that goes through Alleghaney National Forrest that would be pretty swell but I've never covered it.

Seeing as Algonquin Outfitters seems to like you, you need to go get a free Water Taxi ride across Opeongo Lake and head up to Big Crow. Check out the fire tower while it's still there (you can still climb it! But the top burnt off 5 or so years ago now. I had the pleasure of being up there before it burnt!) and the old ranger cabin there. Also the old growth white pine trail is quite nice, some big old titans in there!! I've done the trip at least 4 times lol! I also spent a season driving water taxi for AO at the Opeongo store, 225HP welded aluminum boats can handle up to 4 canoes, 8 people and gear - super fun! Across the lake in 15 minutes! As always, great videos, keep it up!

Cool!! We actually went up to that fire tower lookout about 4 years ago on our 8 day trip across the park from west to east - the view was amazing! We're currently planning a spring filming trip - definitely a great option to catch on video! :)

I got lucky on the last trip, was at the top of the tower when two C-130s came in really low from Petawawa and must have been practicing maneuvers over the park (or saw us, they were close enough, very similar elevation) banked hard like perpindicular to the ground right around Big Crow and us heading back the way they came. Amazing! Also saw a cow and a calf up there once, but for me the C-130 encounter topped it all. (P.S. Please go again, take water taxi, film tower and pines. ;) I have the motivation to do it myself, but you do such a good job - and it's a place I hold dear. And additionally - an EXCELLENT way to get deep into the park and a great first portage (North Arm Ope - Proulx) if people are just getting into portaging and the back-country. :D (And I wanna see you capture the taxi ride, hopefully in some very inclement weather! Haha!) (p.p.s. sorry for all the demands! lol)

I really like your video series of this trip. It's very nicely filmed and edited. I've paddled many of those same areas. So others don't make the same mistake ... read the portage markers and check them against the Algonquin Canoe Routes map (the one you show in the video). In Algonquin, the markers tell you where you are, where you are headed and the approximate distance. That's something I wish other parks would do.

You two should try north of Lk Superior. Some of the Rivers are amazing but no place for novice padders especially on the bigger rivers. Around Rossport there many islands to hide from rough water. The fishing is awesome. The Slate islands are breath taking with lots of Caribou. Good luck the water is COLD !

Great Tripping Ladies and excellent editing job. You asked about what people do on trips. I have done trips in Algonquin a few times. Been into Lake Lavielle via Opeongo Lake and the Crow river. Tough trip Has a 5km portage on it. Usually we do our trips on Georgian Bay in the Massassauga Prov Park or a bit further up the coast north on the French river. We had a bear swim across a lake simiiar to you in that he exited very close to our site. Also had a bear very close to me on a solo trip in the Massassaga a few years ago at dusk. I had Bear Bangers with me and they worked excellent. I also carry Bear Spray but I like the Bangers better cause it's like a loud firecracker that scares them away well before they get within attack range. Had a few scary thunder and lightning storms on Georgian Bay as well. You are usually camped out on open exposed rocky coastline. We do most of our trips in Kayak on Georgian Bay as they are better suited for the rougher conditions.

Other than Algonquin, I've done a short overnight trip into Massassauga. It was a nice park and I believe there are routes you can take through the park. I've been looking at either backpacking or paddling through Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands, which I've read is some great wilderness since it's not a maintained park. Have you been there?

Great videos. Looks like a great trip. In one of the videos, you commented on the weight of your boat...how much did that boat weigh, and what do you normally paddle? That boat looks like a feather compared to my wooden boat.

Thanks for watching! I think this one was slightly longer, and a few pounds heavier than the 16ft Kevlar Ultra-light "Souris River" canoes we usually rent at around 43 pounds. Both great canoes for a long trip though, and Algonquin Outfitters has a lot of Kevlar options :)

william laroche We highly recommend taking "Jeff's Map" which is an updated map of the park, and has of lot of useful info on it. The downloadable PDF version is free too, and you can also access it through a cool app on your phone called "PDF Maps". What's really interesting is, even if you're off the grid and out of cell phone service, the app and the phone's internal GPS can still tell you where you are on the map, so its a nice backup to your paper maps. We keep our (older) phones in airplane mode to conserve power while we're in the park, and get about a week on a full charge :)

Thanks Andrew! Nothing against fishing... it’s just that filmmaking and getting as many interesting shots as I possibly can while we’re out there is my “fishing”. I watch other campers and ask why they didn’t bring a 200mm lens or a super wide-angle lens for example, to catch a better shot :)

I am a little concerned about the way Julie loads and unloads the canoe from her shoulders, her spine is not designed for a twisting bent over motion as she is doing. A canoe should be dropped on its nose or tail and then walked into or out of. Spine straight when lifting, you only get one REMEMBER.
