my pals and i goto algonquin every spring and fall. We got skunked off the kiosk jump-off going south ad through a bunch of lakes looking for lake trout. Came back in the fall and fished the south end through Ragged and caught three on the last day of trout season. Cant beat it.

top secret spot: the portage between smoke lake and ragged, theres a couple pools there. We could literally see x3 12-16" trout just laying there. At that point it was already october so we just watched.

For the first two and last Brookies yes, just hook and worm! Honestly Frank, the best setups for spring trout are always the most simple, don’t need anything too fancy! The other trout were caught trolling! 😄

worms or other live bait is prohibited in the park
@TheAverageJoesFishingShow2 жыл бұрын
Worms are good to go, the park wide rule is actually no live baitfish! Worms and even dead preserved minnows are alright to use. However there are a handful of specific lakes in the park where organic bait is prohibited, and in those cases you would be correct! Thanks for watching!

Trout opens on the last Saturday in April for the park lads. April 30th. Fourth weekend outside the park.
@TheAverageJoesFishingShow2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and for watching! It opens Fourth Saturday of April every year. If you look at the regs, it has always specified that day as the opening date, not the last Saturday. Tight lines!
@NatureBound2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow I copy and pasted this : last Saturday in April The Algonquin Park fishing season opens on the last Saturday in April and ends September 30th. Earlier in the season, until late June, the best action is for the brook and lake trout. These cold water fish prefer cooler water and can be found closer to the surface at this time.
@TheAverageJoesFishingShow2 жыл бұрын
@@NatureBound wherever you copied this text from is incorrect. It’s vital to take information from proper sources online. This link below is the only proper resource for Ontario’s Fishing Regs. If you scroll down to the “Waterbody Exceptions” you can read the following… “Algonquin Park Live fish may not be used as bait or possessed for use as bait Dip nets and baitfish traps may not be used to harvest baitfish Fish sanctuary - no fishing from January 1 to Friday before fourth Saturday in April and December 1 to December 31” www.ontario.ca/document/ontario-fishing-regulations-summary/fisheries-management-zone-15

@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow Yeah I've read that 100 times and that's what I thought myself. When you look at the literature online, it says its open on the fourth weekend. But when I went to get a pass for my buddy they told me April 30th in the park, so I had to wait an extra week. piss me off lol. The guy at the bait store had a note from the MNR saying it wasn't open till may 13th this year for some reason, but I disregarded that. Just so we're clear, I don't really care myself, a few days isn't gonna make or break a species Just wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble. Now you have me thinking the guy at the gate just googled it and saw what I saw lol Anyways, good video lads maybe see yaz out there someday
@TheAverageJoesFishingShow2 жыл бұрын
@@NatureBound yea it’s always been fourth Saturday of April in the regs, so not sure why they told you otherwise. Have to always be positive with the regs, and rely on those government resources more so than the he said she said info which can be very different and wrong lol Backcountry camping was originally getting held off till May 13th due to ice, but is not open. Thanks for watching Eric, glad you enjoyed it. We’re local to the same area, so I’m sure it’ll happen eventually where we’ll cross paths!
