this is smokin ass hot! i am debating doing this with my 71 cj6. i have the dana 18 w/over drive as well, but i have an nv4500 granny/od so i can have double over drive and still have low gears for crawling. you did one hell of a job. thats a clean install.

rowdy hansen thanks man! I’ve really enjoyed it this summer/fall. I drove the wheels off it. The thing runs great! I’m getting 38-40 mpg and it has been very reliable.

Awesome Job. You have something to be proud of. I have a 51 m38 with a Buick v6 . So I know the challenges you faced putting this together. Nice job

Thats one very nice looking old willys. 😎👍🇺🇲

Very nice build. Steh, if you used the older style pedal potentiometer, you could have made a linkage to connect the Willys pedal to it's bell crank. Pedal from a mk3/b4 tdi.

I’m loving the flip flops... I’m rewatching. That is a perfect looking little Jeep, anything you’d change? TDI was a cool detail, was it your idea?

Fast Dad Garage - North & South Chamberlain’s haha thanks! If I did it again I would use sound mat on the entire underside before the engine was installed. I did it after the fact and it was a pain. I would also build a different style intake. Something as quiet as possible. I think i would also move the engine forward a few inches and do the 4 speed right out of the gate.

Awesome Job Steh, Those forest roads look familiar. Was up in the PA wilds with my 46 2A the last week of March and ran over 300 Miles of forest roads, pipelines and trails. Get your Saturn in for even better mpg... what is the torque rating of the wee dub?
@StehHiesher6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jerry, Yeah PA has some good back country to explore. I hope to get the overdrive installed in the next week or so. numbers on my current setup should be 110hp/188 ftlbs.

damn nice. my v6 had 140/160. but no where near 40 mpg like some folks are saying.

How did you adapt the rear discs to the axel and what drives the wheels? Did you have custom axles built? Also what kind of front brakes are you also running.
@StehHiesher6 жыл бұрын
for the rear i just made caliper brackets out of 3/8" steel plates to mount the calipers. everything else is the factory willys axle. rear is a dana41 front is dana 25. The front axle has a disc conversion from a dana 30.Im not sure what you mean by "what drives the rear wheels"??? The stock driveshafts and axles are still in place.
@jud-asinsmith-stansell20226 жыл бұрын
So the TDI transmission is still there and the normal left and right output shafts go to the front axle and the rear axle correct? And if so there's additional gearing in the axles so is it geared really low? What are the gear ratios in the axles?
@StehHiesher6 жыл бұрын
No, I made an adapter. I used the jeep transmission. From the engine back is all original willys jeep drivetrain....TDI engine, willys flywheel, starter, transmission, driveshaft, axles, etc....
@Zehnuss6 жыл бұрын
He used an adapter plate to use the willys transmission

@@StehHiesher So was it easy to adapt the jeep 134 flywheel to the TDI ? I just purchased a TDI to go into my 1955 CJ5
