With polygamy, it's good to bear in mind that pre-Islam, people would marry way more than four women. So essentially, Islam capped it at four, and even capped it at one, if you can't treat them with justice. Abraham and Solomon had multiple wives in Christianity too. Furthermore, if you really don't want to share your husband, you just add that as a clause in the marriage contract. "If you fear you might fail to give orphan women their ˹due˺ rights ˹if you were to marry them˺, then marry other women of your choice-two, three, or four. But if you are afraid you will fail to maintain justice, then ˹content yourselves with˺ one.."

Why did muhammad have much more than 4 wives?
@lightningbolt3219 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question ❤️. It is good to remember that for most of the married life of Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be Upon Him) he was married to only one woman, Khadijah RA. She was older than him and a widow. Later on, after her passing away 25 years later, he then had several other marriages, essentially all his other marriages except one were with elder or divorcees. From amongst the wisdom of these marriages is that they bought tribes closer together, they also increased the number of female teachers of Islam who experienced and could relate the actions and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). If you have any more sincere questions, feel free to ask, or if you would like to speak to me elsewhere, let me know.

According to Tabari, all four daughters of Abu Bakr, including Aisha, were born before the revelation of Islam in 610AD. The marriage of Aisha to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ took place one year after the migration around 624AD. Even if Aisha was born 1 year before the revelation of Islam in 609AD, this puts her age at around 15 -18 years old during the marriage.

@@DaveZee823 Aisha wasnt 6 when the Prophet PBUH married her. This hadith contradicts the Quran. Any hadith which contradicts the Quran is false. The Quran sits in judgement of the hadith not the other way round since the Quran is the primary text of Islam not the hadiths! The Quranic verses which Aisha's age contradicts is “And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphans, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four.” Quran 4:3 Marry a woman it says not a child! Aisha was, according to this hadith, a child not a woman at the age of 6 no girl is a woman ready for marriage at the age of 6. The prophet PBUH was a walking talking Quran. So, he wouldn’t do anything that contradicts it. As he doesn’t speak (nor acts out) from his own desires. “He (Muhammed PBUH) doesn’t speak from his own whims” Quran 53:3 Another Quranic verse which this hadith is in blatant conflict with is: "Your wives are your tilth; go, then, unto your tilth as you may desire, but first provide something for your souls, and remain conscious of God, and know that you are destined to meet Him. And give glad tidings unto those who believe" Quran 2:223 This hadith describes wives as "tilths" thus we conclude for a women to be a wife she must qualify to be a tilth I.e must be over the age of puberty! No child at the age of 9 qualifies to be a tilth! No child at the age of 9 is ready for sexual relations! As i have stated before and will do so again Muhammad pbuh was the walking talking Quran therefore wouldn't do anything that contradicts it. Shame and disgrace be upon the majority of the scholars of Islam and thus muslims who blindly accept this hadith. Only the Quran is the undisputed, inflammable word of Allah. If the age of Aisha RA was in the Quran then fair enough, however it isnt! Those of you who blindly accept this hadith, your making a mockery of the greatest of Mankind. We can also use the hadith to reach the same conclusion by speculating Aisha's elders sister Asmah's age and the hijrah period. The hijra as well because it was around this period when she was promised to the prophet PBUH. According to Imam ibn Kathir and the majority of Islamic scholars, Aisha’s older sister Asmah was 10 years older than her, Asmah had died at 73 years after hijra (AH), at the age of 100. If Asmah had died at 73 AH and was a 100, she was therefore 27 when the prophet PBUH had made the hijra. So, if Asmah was 10 years older than Aisha, this therefore makes Aisha 17 when the hijra had taken place. Aisha was promised to the prophet (PBUH) a year or 2 before hijra meaning she was probably around 15/16 roughly. So, a few years down the line after when the marriage was consummated, she was roughly around 18-20+ Lest we forget the prophet Muhammed PBUH reigned over the lands of Arabia and could’ve had over 1000 wives who were pre-pubesent girls as well as women, if he wanted. Yet he didn’t marry any other little girl like Aisha (RA) supposedly was. Thank you for taking time out and reading. Peace be upon you.

I don't bothers if Aisha was "underage" in the 7 century. In 7 century, life expectation are 35 years old. Those are not an era where if you thirsty, you just open the tap water. If you're sick, you can call a doctor and give you miracle drugs that can save your life. Teen age girl marriage are common on every side of the world during this period, the priority are to procreate. In modern world, we should change the minimal age of marriage because the priority now are education and make the world a better place. And increase the minimal age of marriage is not forbid in Islam. But, let say WW3 and WW4 destroyed our "modern" world and we all back to the age of sword and sandals, then we should lower the age of marriage again to teen age, for both gender, as the purpose are to procreate and increasing work force.

Really liked this open-minded chat! I really hope we can find a way to live together peacefully someday, away from the political drama. Social media isn’t helping, it feels like there’s so much hate floating around. I want to be more accepting of Muslims, and part of me has been thinking about God in a way I haven't before. I think I recognise that a lot of our own struggles like rising divorce rates, OnlyFans, casual sex, gambling, drinking, etc come from drifting from our Christian roots. Seriously, how many of us go to church nowadays? I know I dont! We still celebrate Easter and Christmas, but it feels hollowed out of us true essence. I’ll be honest, some parts of Islam make me uneasy, but after picking up the Bible for the first time since childhood, I notice a lot of similar themes. Muslim countries have faced a lot, it’s hard not to admire their strength, poise and unwavering love, and love for God, through all the challenges.

Amazing interview But the fact that Brogan was so fixated on the attacker on the Southport incident being a Muslim. AFTER Ali Dawah and even her partner at some point informed her he was not Muslim, was really disheartening to see. Props to Ali Dawah for handling the situation professionally it was quite impressive and his patience was superb. FYI, the Southport attacker was a 17-year-old British-born boy. The police didn't want to reveal his identity because he was a minor. But after all the riots and attacks on the Mosques and on Muslims. The police were forced to reveal his identity. His name is Axel Rudakubana. He was born in Cardiff to Rwandan Christian parents.

Ali Dawah kinda failed with the polygamy topic. She is a Christian. He should have said: 1) Biblical prophets had multiple wives. Abraham, David, Solomon etc. 2) Christianity allows multiple wives. In fact, they were allowed unlimited wives. Solomon had 800. If you have a problem with this, don't single out Islam, it's an Abrahamic matter. 3) Most men can't deal justly with more than one wife, so Qur'an says if they can't then they should have one. 4) We live in a society of ever-changing values. Right now we praise monogamy and the vast majority of men and women only want monogamy, but in future we may adopt polygamy again as is the case for most of human history. There's nothing wrong with finding polygamy unthinkable for yourself. The church want you to have one wife now, but they will change their law in accordance with what society wants. 5) Multiple wives allow men to create virtually an entire, blood-linked community of Muslim children. They can spread and propagate the word of God, and with their links to one another, they can build a good economy for themselves. So you're creating an entire community not just having one kid. Muslims are encouraged to have children. 6) Muslim men must provide according to their means which were agreed with their spouse - so it's actually very difficult to pull off in reality.

Brother Ali spent a lot of time trying to explain how polygamy works and it’s benefits and why it’s better than cheating which is all true but he forgot to mention the most important rule Allah placed for this to be allowed in the first place, which is if you cannot give them both justice then only marry one. *** side note*** this makes islam the only religion that puts a limit on men and says only marry one. There’s no limit in other religions. See the Bible stories of Solomon, David, Abraham, Moses, Lemech, Jacob, Esau. Women in todays society view polygamy as an injustice hence why most women are against it and refuse to see any of its benefits. This is why you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who has more than one wife today. This is not a small decision. This is something a man will have to stand before God and answer for. Being unjust/oppressive is a very big sin in islam.
